I just wanted to say I am so relieved that everyone is okay. I worried about all you folks in Florida. God Bless and Take care. :)

I am sorry to hear that so many died and there is so much destruction. On the other hand, I have to wonder about folks who voluntarily move into dangerous zones. For instance, the folks nearby who build fancy homes along the Susquehanna River, only to have them damged & destroyed by winter ice flows every ten or fifteen years. Or those folks who build in fancy developments in flood plains or along eroding beaches. I realize that sometimes the "once in a century" storm occurs, but living in Hurricane alley in a less than storm worthy home on low lands seems a bit suicidal to me. Then not to leave for a shelter? Geesh! When I lived in Miami for three years, there were some rather strict building codes to minimize damage from storms. I guess they didn't have that in SW Florida.
I am not really heartless, everybody has to live somewhere. I just wonder why some folks choose what they do. Like the folks who live on a flood plain and get flooded every four or five years and have to replace their home and possessions every fifteen years. Why?

most of the homes on the coast and other flood prone areas are insured by the Federal Government. We the tax payers are the fools. I'd build a huge house on the coast too if I had known the feds would pay for it every time it was wiped from the earth. sounds profitable to me.
