Wow. Was it one of yours? grimace, cringe...
Hope it works out.

Fortunately it was not something of my design that caused this. A manufactured well head assembly failed. There 6 billion cubic feet of gas in this cavern...36 million dollars worth I think. It will burn a few days....

Can they stop it? Or is it doomed to a total loss?

Texas    Posted 08-19-2004 at 08:38:31       [Reply]  [No Email]
All they can do at this point is let it burn. If they put the fire out using explosives to deprive it of oxygen, then you still have the gas venting and no way to shut it off.

It's about 6 miles thru thru the woods from me.

One of my friends started home from work this morning and the road was closed so he came over here and went to bed. His house is just a couple of miles north of the fire. He's single and no one was at his house. It was'nt damaged anyway just scarey.

He can get to his house alright from the other direction but he did'nt want to chance getting hung up with all the response team trucks running around, and it's about 30 miles of detour for him.

Where do you live Burr? I was raised just a mile from that site.

Hankamer on 61. I've been over here about 16 years or so.

I lived about 2-3 miles south of the fire for about 12-14 years at Wallisville.

So I see you are very close to Galveston Bay. 30 years ago we flew into Hobby Field in a T37 and then rented a car and hung around Galveston for the weekend. I was a AF student pilot at the time.

Yeah it's not far to Galveston as the crow flies from here. You just can't get there from here ;^)

It's about 40 miles by going around.

You probly took some learning in over at Ellington too then. They had on the news last year they may shut Ellington down but so far I never saw anymore about it.

Been too long. Maybe we flew over the Hobby VOR and landed at Ellington. Ellington definitely rings a bell.

The Red    Posted 08-19-2004 at 12:53:28       [Reply]  [No Email]
We visited something at Ellington but don't recall what it was. You get an email from Debbie?

Burrhead    Posted 08-19-2004 at 13:06:51       [Reply]  [No Email]
10-4. I answered one from her but I had a bus come thru the drive up winder so I have'nt checked back lately.

It's good to hear from her.

I have to be a greeter at WalMart and work the drive in winder at Whataburger both just to afford my smokes.

She is on the clock until 5PM. Then she is gonna run some errands. Might be late evening before you hear from her.

Burrhead    Posted 08-19-2004 at 13:47:46       [Reply]  [No Email]
10-4. She must not work with them east coaster boys.

That one hides vodker under his truck seat and bellyaches about what kinda truck the company furnishes him. That's how come the light bills run so high. The light company can't find good help either.

Dang if I can figger it out myself.

She still does medical transcription for the local hospital from her house.

Well that can keep a person busy too.

My SIL was a registered nurse for about 30 years and made good money but some insurance company hired her to go over medical bills from home. Her pay jumped about 40% and she loves it.
