Aprille When you get a leg cramp try to hold your leg out straght and rotate your foot in a circluler motion at the ankle. This should releave the cramp right off. Good luck Maybe a pinch more salt in your diet may help to.

Do you have crazy leggs when you go to bed you just cant find a comfortible spot for them so thay are allways mooving. A sign of calcium deficienty

Yep sure do, and I knew I had a calcium defficiency cause of all the broken bones and lost teeth in my youth

Try a calcium suppliment and take it night before you go to bed should help you to sleep also.

Aprille, I sell nutritional supplements as a home-based business.

I can tell you that generally (in most cases) a good combination calcium/magnesium supplement will stop muscle cramps in their tracks. It has worked for me as well a number of my customers.

I don't want to be guilty of advertising on this site, but if you want further info, email me and I'll be glad to discuss this with you further.

If you're taking a diuretic, you are probably low on potassium. The doctor told my husband that he would have to eat 5 bananas for every Pepsi he drinks just to keep up. Water pills tend to wash the potassium out of the body and sometimes you just can't eat enough bananas. Look into what other foods contain potassium, as well, but talk to your doctor about taking a prescription potassium supplement while you're on the medication.

were you doing any unusal physical activity the day before you experienced the leg cramps? anything like gardening , pulling weeds anything that would cause wear and tear on the legs. back when i was coaching youth baseball i had frequent cramps (charley horse) at night. it was from the more than usual physical activity than i was accustomed to.

I have the dang things almost every night myself, last night was particulary bad with little sleep in between the cramps. I eat bannanas and cut down on the salt like the doc reccomended but mine definitely seem to be related to the weather most generally worse when its hot and humid outside. I'm also on my feet for 9 hours a day at work and I did notice that good shoes do make a difference, try something with a good arch support and avoid flat soles. If ya find a cure please let me know

Coach aways told us to drink more milk for cramps

I have heard that eating pickles before bed time will help. Also drinking mineral in the evening.

A friend of mine has them and she gets an over the counter med and she says it helps her. I'll ask what it is called. If she runs out of it, her legs will cramp that night for sure.

I can't help you, but I feel your painOuch I haven't had a charlie horse (why do they call it that?) for a loooong time. Can't say i miss 'em either. they used to be so bad I'd be limping for 3 days after! My best guess would have been the bananas and water, and you have that covered. Maybe someone else will have some usefull advice. I'm just around to try to make you all laugh.Too Happy 2

What are the bananas supposed to do? I know they are a good source of potassium. Is that supposed to be a remedy for leg cramps? I eat a banana every morning.

Aprille    Posted 08-30-2004 at 04:34:03       [Reply]  [No Email]
Yeah for some reason it's suppose to all be linked together..also bananas are suppose to enhance your mood! Probably why you are such a happy guy! No wonder the Missus stuck with ya! I know that ..or it worked for my mom..extra sharp chedder can alleviate (sp) the problem DURING the attack but I JUST happen to be Lactose intolerant..UGH!..I may have to weigh the pro's and con's on that if it keeps up..and I was sleeping SO GOOD too..

TB    Posted 08-30-2004 at 18:26:23       [Reply]  [No Email]
Ok sounds like you may need a calcium supliment as well. be sure to pick one with a high absorbition rate. Good luck.

Dieselrider    Posted 08-30-2004 at 07:53:07       [Reply]  [No Email]
Aprille, get some goat milk chedder, I'm sure someone makes it. Goat milk will not give the problems that cow milk will if you are lactose intolerent.

KatG    Posted 08-30-2004 at 13:22:34       [Reply]  [Send Email]
Hi April...sounds like you are low on potissum...might give your doctor a call...I am bad lactose intolerate also...or I was until we starting milking our own cow...I can drink all the fresh milk I want too...Oh it is sooooooo good...KatG

My other half has had 9 back surgeries and gets muscle cramps at night too. He takes quinine pills at night and this stops the cramps. or you can drink quinine water before you go to bed about 30 minutes works I do it too after a hard day, this is on the recommendation of an orthopedic surgeon. Put a little lemon in the water or a shot of vodka!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!which ever you like best.....try it for a week and tell me if it works
