I had a really rough week last week. Started with a touch of the flu, felt terrible, didn't get anything much done. By Thursdays, I was startin to feel some better, but the Mrs. had developed fever and a terrible pain on the right abdomen. Thinking appendectomy, I took her to the ER. Finally they admitted her at 3:30 am and I got home around 4:00. Up friday to feed critters and ran out of quail feed. Needed to get to Hospital, so I quick ran to the store so kids would have some micro food, and beat it to hospital, tests this and that, poke here and there, not appendix, maybe liver, possibly pancreas, does she drink too much? does she eat too much salt? More tests, I am dead tired and finally a docotr says we aint sure, but tests show abnormal readings of the this that and the other. About 6:00 pm I go home, stopped for pizza for the kids. Stumbled out to the barn and milked the goayts, I forgot that morning, fed the dogs, cattle, chickens, darn forgot quail food, watered everybody and made sure kids ate. Neighbor shows up with kid, wanting to borrow some eggs, Went to hen house and got real fresh ones I forgot to collect. Chit Chat about wife and as the neighbor is leaving, and sun is set, a strange vehicle pulling a boat shows up in driveway. I am so tired I could drop. As I am about to explain to whoever, that this is a dead end private road, MINE, my bother and SIL and brood gets out. Hadn't seen em in a few years and they live a couple hours away. Seems they were out driving around after boating and just "popped" in. I didn't want to be rude, and by this point could barely stand or keep my eyelids open. I suffered through an hour and a half of exchanging news of his family and they ask if I'm alright because my speech is getting kind of slurred. I explained that I have had two hours sleep in the last 40 hours. I am a little tired. They left. I fell asleep sitting on the porch chair and woke up about midnight. Why do some folks just show up? Why that day? Why not call first? (there were three cell phones between them) Normally,I would really welcome the visit. My other brother does the same. Just shows up. No call, no warning, about once every year. Sometimes, I am just in the middle of a real bad way and just aint in the mood. (They never had a farm or large animals, and the priority and timing of necessary chores just isn't understood.)

Get some rest honey! YOu earned it! I hope your wife is gonna be okay. I can relate, except its not so much family as neighbors. Finally got that matter under control now. Had to put a big sign up on the door saying not knock or call until after 5 pm. I had to, Ian sleeps during the day, and she would come over and ask to borrow the phone, or this, or that, or want to talk. Then, one time, she came over, and I happened to be dusting my chicken figurines, and she made fun of me, she says she wishes she was that bored. Well, I told her sometimes its nice to be that bored! Then she proceeds to tell me she doesnt see how I stand staying home all day,and asked me do I clean up and cook every day, I said yessssss.....its my JOB. She tells me she would have to get a job to get out of the house if she were me, I said well...your not...and I like it the way it is. SHe hasnt been down in a week now, she finally got her a job, AGAIN. I got to where I couldnt stand to see her coming, cause I knew she wanted something, even if it was just my time.

I am like you, I dont have time for socializing during the day, I am BUSY...even though some dont seem to think I am. I have plenty to do, animals to take care of, grass to mow, bushes to trim, laundry, dishes, cleaning, seems I am always cleaning poo out of something, a litter box, a bird cage, the chicken coop. Then there is the truck to think about, I like to try and wash it every now and then...the list goes on and on, it never ends. I realize you have to just make yourself stop every now and then, and enjoy friends and family, but in my life...most of the time I like it to be PLANNED!!!! Seems like after all you had been through they would at least offer to stay and help out! OH well, if your like me, you ran them off...I tend to do that real well sometimes when I dont want company, I can get real pissy!! LOL! take care...thinking about you and yours....

I lost my only brother in 2001. He was 58, He never dropped in, rarely visited and was always glad to see me when I went to NY>
I miss him like crazy. Work out some details of a visit with your bro., so you can enjoy the visit. If he is an adult, he will understand and want the visit to go well also.

Got a letter today from my Brother? Guess he is doing OK got on 100% disability like my other brother did?? So he tells me we are renting a motor home and going to be touring the West Coast with his 3-5 kids can't keep up with how many! He wants to stop in in December so the kids can meet family?? Like maybe stay a week or so and visit??? This is in the winter and he is from So California!!! Said he would call befor he shows up even tho I haven't heard from him in a few years or so! I fed his 2 kids one summer while he played and all they did was watch TV and whine they could not go to town, the girl must have taken 3 showers a day but did no work to need one! They got mad when I had them pull some weeds for fire season too! They ate like starving horses and I paid for the food. I had to pick them up and take them to the Airport 100 miles on way. Man I am not doing this again!!!! I moved 1,300 miles from this out to the country for a reason not to baby sit So. Cal City Beach goers. So I know what you mean. Now if they want to clean the barn, shovel snow, split fire wood to keep the house warm, buy food (lots) and pay the electric bill for the many showers each day, maybe tip the wife for cooking all there meals ect. Am I out of line for not want them to just show up with a phone call they are in town coming up the hill???? No way I like my solitude way of life to much to have it ruined for a few weeks at there pleasure waiting on them showing them a good time. Mark H.

Hey Mark take it easy on Cousin Eddy Eh. After all he's on Disability you know. I bet you'll have a Christmas like the Griswalds did. Lucky you don't have a sewer for him to dump the holding tank into.

I can relate Mark. I used to have similar problems with family until it came to a head and I just starting saying "NO". And, you don't owe them an explanation. It's your time and your place and your life, you don't have to disrupt it for anybody else unless you choose too.

Both my Brothers are healthy and bigger than me except when it comes to work and free money! They all drive new cars take vacations and spend lots of others moneys having fun! When Mom passed on the older one got the house then sold it and blew all the money on expencive Motels and touring the world, now he pays rent? Mark H.

That sort of thing used to happen at my uncles and GP places also, years ago...the cure? whatever was going on had to be done mutualy.... everyone pitched in...if you couldn't milk a cow, you cleaned the barn, after milking, there was the cream separaters crank to turn...and you better be paying attention to the bell...... grab that ax and spit a bunch of wood, and kindling, and fill the woodbox in the want to eat? no problem...grab a bucket and head for the garden, spuds to peel, peas to shell carrots to wash....then help with making meals...and washing dishes afterwards..... nothing stood still because of company...the company pitched in and visited while you worked...but you also got fed very that stayed the summer had chores asigned...and you had better be doing them....still lots of free time to go fishing and stuff..IF your chores were done!!!! Maybe we live in a different world, but, nobody freeloads here...even today, if I go to someones place and they are doing something..I pitch in... old habits die hard........have a gooder, R.E.L.
