Hey Toolman, good to have you back! Any damage to your puter or did you "only" lost the phone line?

toolman    Posted 09-03-2004 at 12:52:48       [Reply]  [No Email]
hey gerrit, well the cableguy was here, said the modem was blown, replaced that , then said my router was blown, bypassed that then the card in side was blown replaced tha (30 bucks) he gave it to me, still couldn,t get it working, figured maybe we had motherboard damage, i called my ins. lady at work(my wife) she assured me we had coverage, made plans to head for the city tonight to get new puter, computer guy had called calgary tech. people to keep trying from their end, he apoligized an left to check and fix things out on the pole , i made one last attempt at trying the internet and it worked, yelled out to the cableguy in the bucket truck that it was now on , he gave me a thumbs up lowered himself down without doin anything , laughed and left.think maybe it was the computer gods that helped, haha.sure wasn,t anything i did.lol

Pretty good :-) So you got a cable modem, huh? Lightning fast I guess? And I thought you kinda lived in the middle of nowhere?

Down here we don't have cable, no possibility to get DSL, so we're stuck with an old fashioned dial up connection.. We're not going to move to the city to get a higher internet speed thuogh - we love living in the country!

I'm glad for you that you didn't have to buy a new puter.. Apart from all the hassle, it's a pain in the a$$ to get all your files back..

Have a great weekend!

i do live in the middle of nowhere the nearest town is 5 miles and only a little over 4000, next is 60 mile away and about 18000, big city a million is 3 hrs, away. but this is canada so we can have what we want as long as we pay for it haha. we have cable, dsl a couple of fiber optic and they are talking about running another on through the valley, wireless tower for cell also. we even got paved roads , im teasin ya now haha .

Gerrit    Posted 09-03-2004 at 18:54:51       [Reply]  [No Email]
Hmmm.. Here you can get anything you want as long as you pay and live in the right area..
Paved roads? Wow!!

I always seem to live in the wrong area.. Wehn I lived in Germany - also in the middle of nowhere, the best I could get was ISDN.. No cable, no DSL...

Oh well, the dial up works at least...

Good to see you back Toolman! Now we won't have to send the Mounties out a'lookin' for ya. Did you get a lightning strike near the house to knock out your computer modem? Happened to us back in July and I just can't figure how it happened as we even had the phone line run through a surge protector at the time. Lucky we had a friend who can fix computers and he did it for free, even put in a new modem for free. Good friends are worth more than gold!

hi maggie, it was hitting all around us , my wife had gone out for a walk , i was just getting the keys to go pick her up when she came back they cut their walk short and her friend next door who she walks with called to say it hit their pole in front of their house , knocked out their power but not ours, strange, looks like it followed the cable line along and blew up some stuff besides my computer, but more on the other end of the road, usually the lightning hits higher up as we have real high mountains all around us, but for some reason this time it got down in the narrow valley bottom and bombaraded us from one end of the area to the other, i had to get over to my shop and unplug some power equipement , and the noise on the roof from the hail was deafing, strange storms for us this summer, now we have snow on the mountains nearly two months early. sure sorry to hear about deadcarp, i was worried that s what was going on, i sure hope he recovers ok, he,s a fighter , i remember how he fought back after the last one, i,ll be praying for him, he,s a good guy.

Hey Toolman, from what I've read the exodus is underway. I think the effects are expected later this evening. My heart goes out to those folks for all the have to endure. A lot of hard praying would be in order.

toolman    Posted 09-03-2004 at 12:20:05       [Reply]  [No Email]
yup i think your right about the praying, it sure must be something a 1 2 hit like this must take a toll on peoples copeing abilities, hope they all stay safe and that thing weakens before it hits.

~Lenore    Posted 09-03-2004 at 13:17:37       [Reply]  [No Email]
I am sure Clod is working like a busy bee for his most excellent boss/nephew. He is one hard working guy, the boss/nephew gets his money's worth out of him.

My neighbor "miss Daisy" as I like to call her, you know an older suthern lady like in the movie "Driving Miss Daisy". I used to drive her and take care of her business before she became disabled. I am trying to work out her med schedule where she is awake in the day time and asleep at night. It is harder than trying to get a baby on schedule.

I have had two nights now where I did not need to go over after midnight. That means pretty good sleep and rest for me till about 7:00am. That monitor I have by my bed keeps me from getting real deep sleep, but at least I get to stay in my own bed! Thanks for asking.

Bless your heart, we all need a Lenore nearby, when the time comes, but few are so lucky! You are collecting future stars for your crown....
