I had spyware and virus through my Yahoo server. If I could stay on Mozilla everything is ok. But Yahoo server is like AOL..I have to click Yahoo dial up to get online. When I do, the spy things and Viruses come through there.I have become fairly good at formatting HD and reloading I appreciate getting the knowledge of doing this. But as the probs come when I ring up to find Yahoo browser there opening the gate before Mozilla can return ,Then the trouble has entered. I had Everyones internet in Houston and had control of my PC because it was simple. But Yahoo grabs the PC away. If I had my disk now I would lod EV net and send Yahoo to file 13. The microsoft ring up thing ask for password. So I have to revert to SBC Yahoo dial then its all downhill after that. What is wrong with simplicity ? Another thing,If I could load Linux I would switch of Windows for good. I knew some guys who tried and failed to load that. If the FBI wanted to zap some terroist ,I think they sould add these folks who dammage PCs to their hit list.I know they can track them.

How long ago did your friends try linux? Nowdays it's actually easier to install than winders. And, it's a whole lot cheaper.
For $149.95 (if you can get the "school discount") you can buy windows eXPerimental. You can use it on one ( 1 ) machine. If you actually want to do some work, be prepared to spend at least $500 more for the programs you'll need.
For $89.95 you can buy SuSE Linux 9.0 or Mandrake Linux 10. You can use it on as many machines as you want. You can copy the CDs and give them to everybody you know. If you actually want to do some work, there are Two Thousand ( 2000 ) programs available on the CDs. Most of them are free. A few are demos and they want you to send 24.95 for the full version, but the demos work fine.

I have an older machine over there that I just paid $216 for the XP home disk.I could not use it on my new one here so I bought the XP Pro from Tiger Dirct for 172 including shipping. Now there are big security gaps that are hard to plug.No person here suggested Linox to me a few weeks ago,Nor say it was easy to load now. I sure wish I could have gotten that info then. I guess I will trash Yahoo IP and reload with an IP that does not open the gate to the virus and spyware, Thank you sir.I am getting good at fomat/reload now.

You may have noticed there are large gaps between my postings. I'll post for 2-3 days, then you won't hear anything from me for a few weeks. Sorry I missed all the trouble you were having, because I may have been able to help.

If you know someone with a reasonably fast connection and a CD burner you can get Mandrake 10 or Red Hat Fedora Core install CDs for free. SuSE you have to pay for. Go to www.linuxiso.org to see what's available.

One linux distribution I highly recommend is Knoppix. The entire thing runs from a bootable CD. You don't have to install it on your hard drive. Just put the CD in your reader and reboot.

Clod, do you actually dial up through Yahoo? If you do, you really should find a new ISP yahoo is loaded with problems.

I had Yahoo for a while and they just dumped tons of crap on me. It took me about a year to figure out they were the problem.

I often think of trashing these PCs and building another T Bucket.that might be more fun.Maybe cheaper too.I could stay in the shop at night to do all the welding here.
