Well, my Mama, if you remember was trying to get me to abstain from Walmart. I have done pretty good so far, except for clothing for us and Shelby. She had me going to Publix Supermarket with her on Fridays...which was okay...but...I just felt I was throwing my money out the window going there...soooooo...

I got up this morning, determined to find a better way to support the little guys and Georgia Farmers. The State Farmers Market is about 2 miles from my house, so Shelby and I hopped i the truck and went there.

WOW...its been a long time since I have been there, but I got some deals!

8 dozen FINE looking corn for 12 dollars
A HUGE bag of purple hull peas to be shelled for 10 dollars
But the best was the potatoes, OMG...I got FINE looking potatoes, all baking size, 50 pounds for 8 DOLLARS!!!! On average I pay 4 dollars for 10 pounds at the grocery store!! And they arent even fine potatoes like these, HUGE potatoes!!!
I also got some okra and some cucumbers, small batches.

Then...there was meat to be considered...sooooo

I went to the local old timey store. Rainwaters. One of those stores that has a sign that says:

Went to the meat counter, got 4 boneless skinless chicken breasts for $4.20, got a huge slab of ribs for 9 dollars, got old fashioned thick cut bacon for 2.69 a pound, shoot the ribs were 2.29 a pound!!!

So...I have supported the Local old timers, I have supported the Georgia Farmers, and I even bought a bale of Bermuda hay from Swints Feed when I got my chicken feed, probably came from Ferns farm!!!

Feels good to spend your money in the right places, yes it does....:)

Sounds like you got alot accomplished today. You did a good deed, spent time with Shelby, and saved a few bucks. Sounds like a win-win situation. Staying away from the 'big guys' takes a little effort and we avoid them, except in an emergency. Makes you feel good when you do good.

Well, more American like your dad did and we will see... :) Stop putting so much added salt to your meat to preserve it longer...then we will talk.

Good girl...Makes you feel good don't it???...I hate going to the super Wal-Mart to buy food...they have put most of the local grocery store out of business around here..I am like you I still have bought clothes there...maily because there is nowhere else to get them..Not that I buy many clothes...Heck the cows and the chickens don't care what I
I always support our local feed store and co-op..and they sell all my extra fresh eggs for me and don't get a dime for theirselves...ofcorse I i turn buy lots of feed from them too...
There should be a happy medium somewhere...use modern technology and the old way of doing things...where all it took was a handshake and your word to close a deal...or telling someone that you would do something and then Doing it...
Heck we can't even pay anyone around here to help us do things we have trouble with by ourselves...Seems like they don't want to work...or that it is too hot...or that it is the weekend or too early in the morning...excuses ...excuses...Pardon me let me get down off my soapbox...I just can not tolerate lazy people who expect something for nothing...
I am going to sell fresh veggies and eggs next year if the weather allows a decent garden...Proud of you KellyGa..KatG

Bless you KellyGa:
Only got 999 imaginary bales to go. Lower overhead, I can make some terrific auto trunk or truck load deals.
So! Is that all you Shelby got to do all day, ride around? (grin) And poor Tip I spose had to look after the home place by herself!! For shame!. (Grin).
Fernan LOL
