OT - monitor driver

You folks seem to know everything!!! So here goes nothing.

While trying to free up some disk space on my children's computer today (thought the add/delete programs function) after I deleted some of the programs, it told me I needed to reboot for the changes to take effect.

Well, when it rebooted, my display settings were changed. I can now only get 16 colors max - there is no 256 color option available!

I have checked for houuuurrrrs online trying to find a driver for my Micron model LM1764 monitor. Micron's site seems to have every driver but that one. I have located a number of folks also searching for this driver, and an old link to find it that is no longer operational. Does anyone have ANY suggestions for me? I am wondering if my graphics card settings could have gotten changed too? I don't know how deleting some of their old programs would have caused this problem.
I have looked thourgh all my old CD's and floppys with no luck either. Thanks to ANYONE who has any suggestions at all. We use this computer for homeschooling and I was trying to install a foreign language program for them.

Try...    Posted 09-16-2004 at 07:56:22       [Reply]  [No Email]
The page linked below...

Try also:

ftp://ftp.buympc.com/Support/Desktop/MONITORS/

http://support.buympc.com/apps/compdriv.asp?ID=33

You need to know the original manufacturer model designation (Micron is a 'rebrander')...Original manufacturer should be on the plate on the rear...

I'm about decided the problem is with the graphics card driver rather than the monitor.

I just don't know what driver to update with. There is no brandname on the card itself.

I downloaded a program called Driver Guide Toolkit that was supposed to name the card and search for the best update, but the program is crashing - "An error has occured - the process could not be completed" The program works fine on another computer (of course) :-(

I just don't know how to locate an appropriate driver, and don't understand why it got changed by deleting a couple of programs.

Judy, I beleive Bob is correct. It appears that you need to reinstall your video card driver. This you would have on CD and most likely came with all the "stuff" when you originally got your computer (assuming this is a commercially built PC).

If you are unsure how to proceed, post back and I'm sure that help will be quick!

You may be missing a VIDEO BOARD DRIVER, rather than a monitor driver.

I've tried letting it auto-select, and it doesn't pick a new one. Any suggestions for picking a better one?

I've tried the driverguide site, mrdriver, a number of various ones, but no one seems to have it for some reason.

I have had good luck with the site below for hard to find drivers. BTW pay no attention to the fella calls himself Rajah, he thinks you are looking for a driver for a monitor lizard from India. Anyway, I posted the link below.

Which winders version are you running? It just might have a driver on the install disk.

Or, you could try the link below. It isn't exactly what you need, but it looks like it's close.

I would have thought my windows 98 disk would have it, but the auto search says it already has the best one installed, which is a generic one with only 16 colors.

Thanks for trying to refer me - the link was for modem and bios drivers.

You know Mrs. Judy from NC, I do think so that you should stick to Plumbing Problems and send all of your computer problems to a call center in India where my people could solve these very problems for yourself yes.

Rajah, I didn't do too well with the plumbing problems. If I have that much trouble with this one, I may become bald from pulling my hair out!
