...yesterday because I got busy in other pursuits, and now I hate to post and run, but I have to go to work here pretty quick.
We have to remember that war is war and is not pretty, never has been, never will be. People get hurt, people get killed, ruthless dictators use their people as human shields and consider them expendable.
Bad things happen in wars. Laws are broken, people resort to animal behavior, and unless we have been staring down the barrel of an AK-47 we do not need to pass judgement. These things have been going on for years, fighting, torture, bad behavior all in the name of war. In all countries through the pages of history, and going back in time, any trace of torture we see or hear of nowadays pales in comparison.
So what's different? The media. Things we could only read about fifty years ago, we now have being broadcast in our living rooms and on our computer screens. Along with the media, comes the ability to manipulate exactly what is seen and heard by the masses, and then we still have to make up our minds what we want to believe about the course of events that led to the particular situation in question.
This is all nothing new. The only difference is we now have the technology to view these events firsthand and make up our own minds. Which is good and bad. The democrats would like nothing better than to convince us that this war is an atrocity and a waste of time and money and human lives. So they make a point of 'playing up' incidents that will make the Republicans look bad. "If it wasn't for George Bush...everything would be rosy and perfect and peaceful."
No one can say what would have happened had Clinton, or Kerry, or Gore been president on 9/11/01. No one can say what would have happened had we not gone to war with Iraq. Conservatives prefer to believe that had we not attacked Iraq, that our incidents of terrorist activity on US soil would have been greatly increased. Liberals like to say that we lashed out in retaliation at the first available target.
The truth is, if we are not going to be led by the nose, we have to do our own research. You can put your faith in the Bible but if you put your faith in the wrong preacher and follow his example, you're still gonna go to he11.
You have to read that book yourself, cover to cover, and find your own interpretation. You can't just leave it up to Rev. Larry Whoever to tell you what it says and what it means. The same holds true with this war. You have to read those papers yourself and that means all of them from both sides, and draw your own conclusions. You can't rely on CNN or FOX or 'POLITICAL AGENDA OF THEIR OWN' media company to tell you what it all means.
In all fairness, if you're not researching both sides with an open mind, then you really can't have an accurate opinion. Right?
