Tips on cows

Is there such thing as specific cows are only for milking and other only for beef, such as black angus?

We raised Grade Holsteins for dairy,due to their output volumme.With testing and culling over the years,our herd butterfat avg was +4%.We bred all heifers to Angus or Hereford giving a much smaller calf for the first birth,and providing the family beef.Ate a lotta Holstein over the years too which was fine beef,but not up to the flavor and tenderness of the Angus/Hereford crosses.We ran our beef steers with the cows for appx 2yrs,then penned them and hit em heavy with corn/grain for 2 mo before butchering.Diet can make a huge difference in quality/texture of meat.

yes there are breeds that have specific gentic traits that produce better qualities for individual purposes holstein most widely used dairy cow in us, comprises 90% of population, 15000-18000lbs of milf per year, 3.5 or so butterfat, females weighs about 1500, meat from these animals are ok yet not highly desirable
Angus are the primary desired breed of meat/beef animal-high marbeling, good mothering ability, higher than average Average daily gain, acceptable birth weights, high quality finish carcass. In short yes their are specific breeds for speciofic purposes

Donna I kinda new at this cattle and farming but learning quickly...Jersey and Guernsey give the milk with the highest butterfat content...milk is richer and they are smaller and won't eat as much and take up less space...but do not give as much milk as Holstein...which is also a good dairy cow...Jersey beef has yellow fat and is less atractive for eating but I have heard it is GOOD...Angus and Holstein make good beef cattle...They say and mix bewteen a Jersey and a Holstein makes a great around cow...But we have registered stock and the cattle assc. frowns on mixing breeds..Which I think it is okay to do...but that is my idea...KAtG

We raise Registered Texas Longhorn Cattle.Thier Meat is very lean ,better for you than chicken...
Dont milk them although if you thought you had to I guess you could...

there are cows that are bred for tipping and some cows bred for not tipping oh shoot i misunderstood the question.

Which is easier to tip, holstien which is heavy and has a high center of gravy or short horn which is lighter and has a low center of gravy?

any cow can be milked and any cow can be eaten for beef. That said certain breeds are better at converting feed to milk while others are better at converting feed to meat

Angus is a beef breed along with lots of other breeds and crosses. Jersey and Holstien would be the most common dairy breeds. There are some breeds that are dual purpose such as perhaps a milking shorthorn, but they are not as popular as the more specialized breeds.
