New Maryland Gun Law pending
[Return to Topics]

On Thursday the 1st of March, the Ways and Means Committee of the Maryland House of Delegates will vote to impose a special tax on all ammunition sold in the state. Under it, gun owners may be taxed from 50 cents to 5 dollars PER ROUND.

If you are interested in this and live in MD, now (today) is the time to call your MD State Representatives to let them know what you think of this kind of law. The bill is HB 1125. MD has been assaulting the right to own guns one law at a time for the past several years and if we don't speak up we will lose that right soon.

Sounds like the retailers along the borders of MD will have a banner business selling less taxed ammo. Fortunately, one in MD doesn't have far to drive to get to another state. Appears MD law makers are shooting themselves in the foot (or where ever). Reminds me of the statement that "Knowledge is power". Think about it, who in your community has access to the most knowledge? Answer - the librarian. Not much power there. Now who has the most power? That's right, the politican. Not much knowledge there.

Gun laws! I look at it this way-

If there was only 1 person in the entire world, then that person could have as many guns as desired and could do with them as they pleased.

If the worlds land masses were occupied to the point that there was 1 person on ever sq. ft. of land, then no one should have guns.

Right now, we are somewhere in between these two extremes. I think that if the world's population continues to grow, then we will have to give up some previously cherished rights.

I do own guns and really do not wish for them to be taken away. But I will give them up if or when they become a libility to society. I just hope that is not in my, or my childrens, lifetimes.

So let me see if I understand this. The higher the population is, the less rights we have? Or the total number of rights-in this case gun ownership-is divided equally among the number of people?

Sounds like the basic fundamentals of communism to me.

BTW guys, this discussion should probably be over on the Country People board. More appropriate forum.

Already done, but thanks for the warning. And as long as the idiots on the western shore keep electing the bleeding heart liberals we're gonna have to keep fighting this battle.
