I just read your post re: the drop in egg production.
I spent too many years working for Agway, and Wengers, as a poultry health, and management advisor, but here's a bit of what I was able to retain from those days.
The drop in production now is a combination of factors. First they are getting a bit old. However the major factor is the decreasing day length. In those big commercial layer houses around your area, they length of day is NEVER decreased on layers unless you want to force molt them. Since ma nature is doing your lighting, it's actually driving them out of production.
Having gone this far, I'd look into finishing the molt, let them rejuvinate their calcium supply, and then bring 'em back into production.

Yeah...An I think light intensity does have something to do with it. You can get them to lay with dim light, but brighter light will do a better job. If you have light availible, it is simple enought to wire in a time clock and give them about 16 hours a day.

Let them go on out like Ron said and give them a little break. Then start putting the light back to them a little each week till you get them up to 16 hours.
