On another site somebody was asking for help for a friend who was utterly wiped out in this last stinking hurricane. The woman had been hanging in there, but the last one took all that she had. I can't do much, but I did give the URL of Freecycle, a Yahoo! listserv that basically is a free trading post. I figure if any of you are in dire straits from Ma Nature's vagaries, you can look over the list from your area and see if someone has something you need, or needs something you have and don't want.
I hope this helps somebody, and if it doesn't float your boat, it was worth a mention. I used to visit the Oregon ones quite a bit, and they are indeed legit, well-meaning for the most part, people. :)

What a clever idea. Got lots of useful junk around here we don't need to keep while still to good to throw away.
Just within this last month I lent out a hay rake to own, sort of along the lines of the US's lend lease programs of the late thirty's and early forty's. I expext then to take reasonable care of the machine, use it, and if needed let me borrow it. (grin)
