Nobody in Canada to reap the harvest

This is the truth. A big city downtown area I visited has tents set up on the sidewalk. Able bodied individuals trying to intise spare change from the working people. Sittin around like lame pidgeons with nothing to do.
Yet Canada has to import fruit pickers from Mexico to reap the harvest.
Its a bad system. Huh?

Kraigh, i live just down the road from where they wanted to do that, it was an idea put forward by american draft dodgers but it seems the good people of my country would have none of it so now they are running around looking for another place to put it perhaps it will end up in WY.

Glad to hear that Toolman, I love Alberta, my father was born in Rimby.

LOL I dont think they will have any draft dodger memorials in Wyoming, but they can try.

alot of canadians volunteered to fight in nam, i had a nice talk one day long ago via email with old sarge and he spoke highly of them, i find it and insult to them as well as the fighting men and women of your country, if they want to do something try and bring some kind of memorial to them. this small city (nelson) had alot of draft(now old hippys) dodgers settle in the area and i guess they figure they would give themselves a last pat on the back and get some attention, well i figure if they want attention they should go back to the states and try and build that statute, so did the majority of the people from our area i guess , because we (i know i did ) called their city hall and told them i wouldn,t be visiting their fair town any more and spending any of our money there, money talks haha.

Hi Toolman,

By 'VAN' I assume you mean Vancouver? Wife and I went on an Alaska cruise this summer beginning and ending in Vancouver. Very pretty city (if any city can be 'pretty') but there seemed to be a lot of homeless and panhandlers about. Someone at our hotel said that the government had recently cut some sort of mental health program and that most of these people were displaced from group homes and were now out on the streets. They weren't belligerent or hostile, but it did get tiresome having to deal with them all the time. Of course this was in the 'touristy' areas like Gastown and Chinatown. I'm sure this situation didn't exist everywhere in the city. I guess the US isn't the only place with these sort of issues. Somehow that doesn't make me feel any better about it though.
