Well the US Forest Service has changed the Radio Specs for Contracting for fires in 2005. My old Bendix King Radio is now out dated (still will work) and I had to buy a new one for next year. The new requirments are for 240 channels Narrow/Wide Band and Digital Upgraded if needed (more money)they only program you 2-4 channels and the old 14 channel radios were fine. So I had to spend $900.00 on a new radio today, might not be able to get one at the begining of 2005 Fire Season when everyone else is buying them and inventorys run out. Part of this is tring to get all Radios the same for Home Defence reasons and probley a kick back for someone who made the rule change in the Goverment! Our VFD had to spend over $10,000.00 on Radios to up grade this year and we could have used the old ones and bought other gear instead. Mark H.
