We got some big turtles lurkin about in a pond close. See them headless pan fish floatin near to the edge. Caught them turtles years ago with chicken necks on big hooks tied to vinagar jugs. Old lady down the road would fix em just right. Can still catch the turtles, but lost the cook... miss her too. She could make the best rhubarb & strawberry pie. I'd mow her grass & she'd send me home with something good for our dessert. One trip home I stopped along the way an ate the whole pie. Daddy made me sit up at the table an eat all that was in front of me. Learned how much my stomach could hold that night.
So, folks, I'm lookin for a country home recipe for turtle. Somewhere in our family we must have the old woman's recipe for the rhubarb & strawberry pie. At a reunion we had last year there was 4 of them pies on the sweets table. Went fast too.
This forum is pretty interestin. Hope you can post a turtle recipe for us...

My cousin's wife sure stirred up a nice batch years ago - after chores i asked him if he'd ever butchered a turtle. He hadn't so we gathered the 2 live snappers from the box in the pickup, chopped them and got busy. I remember they kept squirming awhile and the bones in the stew were twisty-lookin. Sure was good though!
I'll ask her to write the recipe down next time i'm there.
