Driving to work in the rain just after sun up. I have a pretty big Dodge Ram 1500 4WD pickup. I had a very sturdy brush guard put on the front for just this occasion. The deer, a doe, bolted out from the left side of the road. I was going about 50. No chance to stop and I will not swerve avoid hitting anything that small, especially on wet pavement. In this case there was no time to swerve, but that is one of the ways people are killed in deer/car encounters. The deer went down and under the two right hand tires. Dead right there. And here is the best part, not a scratch on my truck. The $350 brush guard saved me a $500 deductable on my insurance. And it gives me piece of mind.

I drive 50 miles one way to work through deer country. I will admit 15 miles to the gallon is not great mileage, but you can't beat the safety of a big truck like that with air bags. Two hours every day are spent in that truck and it is safe and comfortable.

When I started driving a school bus they told us "ThumpThump, you'd better not wreck that bus and put everyones life in danger just because of an animal. There's not a single one of them that has a tag on their behind".
