For the kind responses to my earlier post. Normally other than the occasional story I don't say much on here, but this morning I just felt the need to unload a little.

true story-    Posted 10-14-2004 at 14:13:50       [Reply]  [No Email]
feller i know had a dead red oak leanin toward his house. it had been losin limbs for a couple years. one hit his porch and poked a hole in it.

he fretted over that tree until he couldnt stand it any longer. he got his grandson to climb it and tie it off with and a big hemp rope. fastened the rope to the backside of the tractor and put some strain on it.

then he hinge cut the trunk to make sure it fell his way. when he topcut the hinge the tree spun on the stump and fell back toward where the truck was. the rope broke but not before giving some tug, but too late. tree fell on his pickup. glass flew everywhere. the top was flat all but where the steering column supported it some. all 4 tires blew.

after a head count was taken and we knew nobody was hurt his brother nearly lost his life to laughter. his wife then said that at least he could change his worry from the house to the truck. we all howled then, including the old timer.
