I have 5 khaki campbell ducks. They are about a year old and I was wondering why I can't get them to lay any eggs? Can you folks offer any suggestions? Thanks a lot!!!-----Rob

Well, nobody qualified has answered so I guess I'll try.

KC's are supposed to be great layers. Our runners, which aren't supposed to be as good, started laying regularly around 8-10 weeks of age and lay daily. So year Khakis ought to be producing lots.

So reasons why fowl don't lay probably include:

1) They're not females
2) Poor quality or insufficient food or some type of deficiency
3) A low-quality line out of the breed
4) They really are laying and you just haven't found them yet (ours free-range, and hide their eggs much better than chickens)
5) Insufficient light (not sure how much a duck requires, but chickens need a minimum of about 14 hours of good light daily to lay eggs)

There's probably other reasons, but those are the ones that come to my mind that you might consider.

good luck,
Tom A
