I read your post below which asked the question, "What makes dogs howl"?

Some of the suggestions such as unusual scents will set them to howling. And, on occassion, dogs will howl for no known reason when the moon is full. Also, fire and police sirens play heck with their hearing. So, without causing undue alarm, consider this, What if an intruder, intent on robbery or other unlawful act used one of those high frequency whistles to aggravate the dogs' hearing?

If I were you, I wouldn't waste any time installing some flood lights around the place. And, if the dogs, ever again, stop barking and start howling, fire off a round or two into the air to let possible intruders know you're armed. Just don't make yourself a target.......gfp

You know I've done that before. I think I scared the bejesus out of the guys who own the 200 acres to the north. It's nothing but cow pasture, but backs up to about a thousand acre grove, lots of workers in and out of there.

We hadn't lived here long and the dogs were prowling around the north fence at about midnight, growling and barking. I was thinking someone had been scoping out stuff and was thinking about taking something. I had just gotten my double barrel .410 and I figured if there was someone out there screwing around I would let them know that they need not cross the fence.

So I fired off two shells. Blam...blam!!

I heard someone say.."Oh..(feces)!! And then three four-wheelers started up and took off to the west. I know that's who it was. I'd seen them out there checking the fenceline and so on. What they were doing out there at midnight is beyond me but they sure weren't looking to steal anything. They have more money than I'll ever see.
