okay so i'm improvising: is there any good reason i couldn't use a regular electrc waffle iron which we have to bake waffle cones? instead of a pizelle maker which i ain't got?

Difference between the two machines is the thickness it makes the waffle/cookie. Use a regular waffle makes and pour less batter in and as soon as it comes out, roll it up for it to cool. You may need to adjust the batter a bit to make it harden up some.

When all else fails, put the ice cream in a dish. :^)

I believe the ice cream cone was invented at the Chicago's Worlds Fair back in the 1800's when shop was selling ice cream in dishes. They ran out of the dishes and a fellow took a waffle and rolled it into a cone. Now you know the rest of the story.
