Public Restrooms

Why do so many public restrooms have only one sink for every 4 toilets?

Is it because sinks cost more to install than toilets?

Or did somebody do a study and conclude that it takes 4 times longer to go to the bathroom than to wash your hands?

Or maybe that same study also concluded that only 1 out of 4 people wash their hands?

I have to get to work and probably won't be on here much all day, so I'll be anxious to read your input when I get in.

NG (Who probably needs to get out more}

My boss took a bunch of us out to the Pimlico Race track for an afternoon at the races. While there, we went into the men's room for a nature call. Upon entering, the boss went immediately to the wash basin to wash his hands. One of the men said, "Boss, you're supposed to wash up after you pee". The boss replied by saying, "Oh no!!! I know where my p&n!s has been".........gfp

Sounds like where I work. You can always tell which are the techs, especially the chemistry techs, because they wash their hands first.

heard one similar - 2 guys took a leak. first one reminded the other: "at harvard they taught us to wash our hands after urinating." second one replied: "oh i suppose so - at yale we learned not to pee on our fingers!"

Don't think I've ever seen a public restroom like that. Oddly enough, here at work we have 15 sinks for 4 urinals and 7 terlets. Seems kind of an odd ratio. On the other hand, I've noticed that airports seem to have about one sink per terlet/urinal, more or less. And most restaurants I've been in have at least 2 sinks, and seldom more than two stalls and two urinals.
