looking at that moon got me to thinking , why is it round , the earth is round so are the other planets, why? why aren,t they square, or so other shape, why are they all round.

If it were square, When you went around the world you would have a tough time getting around the corners. Or you would fall off at the corners.

Really big objects like the Moon pull themselves into a sphere (like a ball). Small objects don't do this. So, your computer, your dog and even asteroids aren't big enough to pull their material into a ball.
The diameter of the Moon is 3,474 kilometers. The Earth's mass is 5.98 x 10^24 kilograms while the Moon's mass is 7.35 x 10^22 kilograms. That means the Earth weighs 5.90 x 10^24 more kilograms than the Moon. That means the Earth is just bigger all around! The Moon's average distance from the Earth is 384,467 kilometers. Like the rest of the solar system, the Moon is about 4 billion years old!

wife just told me about a cult down the road a piece that belives everything must be round, i remember them now i drove by, a whole bunch live on the same property, everything is round their house, big hall, they even fenced their property in a circle, can,t be too smart of a cult though, must of gave up a big chunk of land by fencing a circle, wish i had of remembered them earlier , would of been a hoot to take a drive out there tonight, and draw squares all over the place lol.

Crop Squares????    Posted 10-27-2004 at 21:01:40       [Reply]  [No Email]
Toolman, square is the way to go. no more circles in the fields. Of course, if aliens make circles, then earthlings would make squares. Call up Mannard Crebb. He knows all about squares.......gfp

I guess because they all revolve? I mean that's the reason the earth is round, and I just imagine that it is because it not only spins on its axis but also circulates around the sun. Those are all round actions.

Just a guess.

thats right that is round too why, why is it all round, i wonder if someone ever answered that like in physics or something, i wonder.

Are all planets...    Posted 10-27-2004 at 20:09:21       [Reply]  [No Email]
..round?

The large ones, bigger than say 400 kilometers in radius, are round because the amount of mass present produces such a strong gravitational field that most substances such as rock become very plastic. But, if the planet is too close to its sun, or if a satellite is too close to its parent planet, the shapes can be very out-of-round due to tidal effects.

Taken from a scientific question site.

Yeah it is. I wonder what the caveman thought when such a thing happened back then. Probably thought there was a witch in the tribe and sacrificed somebody. Anybody who looked witchy. (smile)
