Why terrorism doesn't work

ever so often there debuts on the world scene another loud mouth. he has all the answers even if he never heard the question. from hitler, castro, quadaffi & pol pot, all the way to the aggressive disciples of saddam & osama. they always predict ruling the planet in a short time and make all kinds of gestures/threats to whoever listens. oh they might score a point now and then, but mainly they take a dive without all the marbles. the most glaring failure i keep seeing is that they don't study their enemy first. cocky words sound good in one's head, but once they turn the bull loose, nobody trians one in 8 seconds. these clowns in the middle east who are making all the noise now - have they ever been to the hood? have they ever met one of us? have they ever even considered a country this big, with 280 million armed people, who get nightly police training on tv and all carry cellphones? naw, they're just making noise. i'll predict that, if motivated, our average punk-asst yard kid could bich-slap a batallion of whatever upstart raghead got this far. until these yelping animals civilize themselves, i see no threat.

Anybody remember Michael Collins? Said something like - the purpose of terrorist acts is to terrorize. terrorism is the only way a small group can influence an otherwise indifferent populace to acheive its goals, or convince an oppresive/occupying government to leave. Not Islamic- IRA/Irish. Also remember Cyprus? RN

Terrorism is a problem that cannot be solved completely in my opinion. As long as there are fanatic people who think that the non-believers ( in their version of the Islam ) in the world ( not only USA but also Canada, Europe, Japan etc. ) are responsible for their problems, terrorism will be there. People who are fanatic and crazy enough to go on a suicide mission will attack every now and then, kill inocents and spread fear.

Now this doesn't mean that we should let them 'do their thing'.. If terrorists can be identified and captured, or even better, killed, it should be done. I believe that chasing them and trying to eliminate traingcamps, trying to block their resources, go after their financing systems etc, is a good thing.
I doubt though that attacking countries is an effective way of trying to deal with terrorists.

But no matter how many terrorists are being captured or killed, there will always be others to take the places of the eliminated ones. The anger of the elimination of their comrades will put them on the same track... The way they 'work' makes it impossible to get them all, so we will have to deal with the problem.

Maybe governments should think of helping the countries where the idiots are coming from to get their countries organized, help to provide work and income for the people, so they will be happy and don't see 'us' as their enemies??

Respectfully, to see no threat is blinding yourself to reality. Shall I name the terrorist incidents over the last couple of years? The terrorists are a worthless lot that needs to be dealt with from a military perspective. Considering their "devotion" to their cause, they need to be hunted down and destroyed. Dubya has begun the process and will finish it if given the opportunity. Kerry, however, is a frightening prospect as our Commander-in-Chief.

Vote Bush on Novemeber 2!

it sounds good, but how many americans will strap a bomb on them and go out and willingly die? Not too many, we think life it too dear for that. This is not going away for a long time, they are a tough enemy, like it or not. And, who you gonna shoot at with your big rifles when you don't know who the enemy is? JMHO

What you say is true, REt.
I hear lots of folks say what the president is doing is not the right way.
I have not heard any right way solutions offered.
I know or have been told men like to "fix" problems;
How do you believe it should be "fixed"?
...or do you believe it is not fixable?
If so do you think we are all doomed to be muslims or be beheaded?
Just asking what you think is the best way to deal with it;
and anyone else who has an idea what would be the best solution.
Come on men folks, fix it!!

Lenore, I am not qualified to say what ought to be done. In one respect, the white christian governments of the world have exploited the middle east for hundreds of years. I don't believe any arab country cares for us, the SAudis have to do business with us or they will be destroyed by the factions wanting to oust the royal family. Therefore , we protect them. It has gone past just the oil stage now, cause of the growth of their religion. You ask if we can get back to a degree of normalsy, I think we will be hated for years for what has happened in Iraq, right or wrong. AND, until Israel is recognized by the arab world, they will have no peace. In the arab schools they STILL teach of no recognition of the jewish state.That means we won't either. We build schools and elec plants, roads, oil lines, and they are blown up. I really wonder if the populace there wants this new kind of freedom . I don't see it ending for a long time. At the present time, I think we should have stuck to our ultamatium about surrendering or die in those two cities that are stronger now than 3 months ago. That in my opinion showed a terrible lack of judgment. There have been some good posts on this subject, someone's thoughts are sure to be better than mine

A few thoughts while caffiene is working. Iraq/sunni trouble makers assigned collective responsibility for infrastructure and death-water line blown means former saddams generals and security people pay to fix it- or fix it themselves- or get sold as slave in Sudan. Troops killed- selected troublemakers families given couple days to brinng in killers or one of them is publicly hung or beheaded and next on list given responsiblity of bringing in original killers or hang himself. Iraqi security personal? Draft women for next 10 years for militia duty- Isreali pattern training and service, require them to take weapons home. this would put an interesting spin on rape prevention and women voting. Ambush around cities with maiming? Troublemaker suspects in city given couple days to bring in attackers -otherwise get hands and feet chopped off, next set in family given couple days or same thing to them. Note that Saddam did similar acts for his own security- ambush near town resulted in whole town wiped out. suspected assasins families killed. Makes Isreali bulldozers and target terror groups officers look gentle by comparison? Out for more coffee, see what responses are in about an hour. Skillet time? RN.

hi lenore, i kinda agree with gerrit in that one can never eliminate all enemies. muslims are spreading their faith pretty effectively for their short history of existence. i'm not sure that a country has to embrace that faith to avoid slaughter, though i had a muslim penpal in indonesia a few years back who seemed to interpret jihad that way. christianity has proven to be the bloodiest religion so far, in terms of body counts.

as far as sending help thru governing systems, democracy has a big weakness in that it advocates & accomodates individual greed whereas socialism forbids & discourages greed. we seem to say," become a democracy and we'll support you". (that reflects a huge helping of optimism.) if the greedy are already in power, food will not reach the hungry until someone's been compensated. (if haliburton is entrenched, they'll get their cut.)

can terrorism be minimized? sure, depending on current leadership of the haven country. it's a gamble like this: can i win at the horse races? sure, if i know enough about the faster horses. we oughta realize that simply going to church won't insure eternity. :)

This is exactly why I figure I won't count on our military to protect me day to day. It's time for us as people/citizens to be prepared to defend ourselves. I'll "carry" when necessary, I'll take care of me, and mine first, and free up the military to defend us as a nation.
As for having to answer to the courts,,, well I still think it's better to be tried by 12 than to be carried by 6!!!!!!!!!
I'll take my chances, and yep yer right, they won't hold a candle to our worst, let alone our best,, that'd be us, the everyday joe!!

We do have a big problem here,. I will give you an example of sorts.Let us say DC is on a passenger plane and two or three of those idiots jump up with box cutters and says.We are taking control here! We are going to crash this plane into bla bla bla. So DC grabs a sharp instrument and pecks these fools eyes out while the crowd of passengers sit screaming in fear. OK.. What do you think would come when the plane landed safely atits destination? Some politicians.nesmen and lawyers may applaud Mr DC as a hero. But in a short time the Feds will charge DC with several citations with the help of the ACLU and other commie orgs.Then our hero will be looking for large sums of money for Harvard lawyers.The bottom line is.Our greatest enemy is not over there but over here.Only internal enemies have power in the legal systems.

clod you are a lot closer to the real truth than you realize . we are being used as dupes to pull someone else's chestnuts out of the fire .there is so much propaganda,brain washing and disinformation going on to MANIPULATE the general public to support their agenda the citizens are not capable making making a decision in this country's best interests . you can look at indivudal countries being against us and say maybe but the WHOLE WORLD ! who do you think has the most to gain in the area ?

Clod    Posted 10-30-2004 at 17:27:36       [Reply]  [No Email]
If we sit back and watch we will sit in gas lines a mile long. We are not the only ones dependent upon oil and who controls it.Japan would go there and get oil one way or another.They are more dependent than we are. I do not like everthing going on Bill. But just let others grab control of the oil supply and see what the average voter really thinks.We took on a large burden while others sit and look. But if we withdraw they will start screaming for oil also. Let the USA take the heat and they get to talk down about us while they get benifits from our risk and expense.Playing nice guy wont get the job done.

The world doesn't get us. The see how soon we went back to nitpicking and argueing amongst ourselves so they think we're soft and wishy-washy. Russians said they'd never invade, just wait to pick up the pieces after we implode. What they don't get is that the noise makers are in the minority, and they must believe our news broadcasts more than we do. Everyone is right about our worst being as tough as their best, and our best is simply unsurpassable. American resolve is absolute, no matter what the political parties would have everyone believe.
