11 yr old shot to death

local boy was shot by a 12 yr old neighbor Saturday afternoon. I knew the kid. News stories are all over the place. Some say he was shot in the house by accidental shotgun blast, other news stories that he was shot outside with a rifle, no accident. I have heard a great many complaints for months about these two kids shooting and target precticing, unsupervised by adults in an exurban neighborhood. Some neighbors even kept their kids indoors when the target shooting was going on because they knew there wasn't a proper area or backstop for target shooting. The real shame, is that because of some ignorant adults who didn't properly teach or supervise their kids, one boy is dead and other folks will blame guns and want more gun control.
I am going to the funeral service. What do you say to the parents to convey sympathy for their loss? (Especially, when I'm a bit miffed with their lack of supervision of their own kid)

Its a terrible shame that things like this happen.

Think about it this way, expressing your sympathy for the parent's loss is different than having a conversation with them about whose fault it is.

Just give them a sincere "I'm Sorry" or "My prayers are with you" and it will be completely appropriate.

sometimes words aren't needed to convey your sorrow to someone.

perhaps being there is acknowledgement enough.

over the weekend near penticton at a place out in the bush known as a party area a group of native , i hate to call them kids as i don,t know the ages, but they were partying a fight broke out, end result is three dead three wounded in hospital in bad shape as i hear it, small place, some related, makes you wonder what goes through peoples minds theses day,we used to have a good fist fight sit back down have another beer, no guns , knives . maybe there is just not enough morals drummed into there heads these days even when we did wrong we knew it was wrong and if we stepped over the line we,d pay, not so today.

Very little morals are taught to most youngsters and young adults today. It can not be taught in school because then you have to let "God" in and we can not do that. Unfortunately not as many attend church like in the past so it is not taught in a lot of families either.

Kids live in the fantasy world of video games and rap "music" both are violent and magically the victems recover after being killed, to be killed again when the next game is played!!
