No, but I am gearing up for a run on the local school board. Probably regret it, but the kids are starting school and I want to be involved in their education.

If anyone can give me some tips on how to proceed, I would appreciate the reply.

Dug, I've worked for our local school system for 25 years and have seen Boards members come and go. If you want to win you will first need to win over the employees vote start at the bottom know everyone you can, espically teachers and administrators. Don't make promises you can't keep ( you will be only one of several board members) learn your opponets record and be prepaired and knowledeagble and most of all be for the childern of your area(know what they need).
Know your area well, make a point to visit all the businesses in it you can and stick to your platform. Know local politics, it may be eiser to beat your opponet by running on the same ticket than by being part of a smaller voting block.
Use the "Kiss Method" " Keep it simple stupid"say what you mean and mean what you say....
Lastly , make your life easier get a pager and cell phone, your going to need them.
good luck

the school board members are generally thought of as "nuts" around here. ya better learn real fast to be more tolerant, learn to compromise your postion and most of all you better develop a very thick hide. oh, you better prepare your family in the same way.

Dug, watch your back. Be careful. Talk to someone you know and trust. School board politics, at least in my area, is as brutal as it gets. Take it very, very seriously. Believe me when I say, it is a business and a career for many people associated with the board and they won't take to you lightly if they consider you not to be one of them or one that they can control. Run as though you want to be a team player, if not then they will fight you to the end. hth good luck

NOPE!Somebody has to do it though. So they must go through the process or shoot their way into office. They catch a lot of flack. But the media tries to sway the voters to the candidate of their own choosing.Atleast untill the media monopoly was divided by the new groups. In the sixties there was ABC,CBS and NBC. Three bodies on one head.

Well I actually had in mind a little smaller scale, not the kind that the press would care to sway.
