"Actor and comedian, he was the voice of the cartoon characters Deputy Dawg and Heckle and Jeckle, as a regular on "The Steve Allen Show" he was known for his catchphrase "Why Not?""

He was also on Howdy Doody for 4 years...

He died of a stroke on the 11th...

Speaking of silent cartoons, do you remember the one about these skelitons that raise up outa the cemetary, and dance around and whatever, they fall apart, their bones gets mixed up, whatever. Somthing happens and they all; go back into there graves again at the end. I thought it was a hokey cartoon even way back then, slightly better than nothing. I didnt know until i was in my 40s that that cartoon came out in 29

The Deputy was one of my favorites growing up. Sad to see another childhood icon leave the scene.
