Being a man that leans towards the inovative side of life, I thought perhaps you, and of course others who might be interested, would like to hear of an idea I had when I was convelescing from my hip surgery. Before the surgery, I soaked in the tub filled with as hot a water as I could stand, with epsoms salts added, to seek relief from the pain. After surgery I thought it would be nice to do the same, but found it nearly imposible to get OUT of the tub. Thought of making an electric lift, winch, and swing seat sort of apparatise....too I came up with the idea of using an excercise ball....sit on the ball in the tub and let the air out, to get into the water, and to get up, just fill the ball up with air, from a compressor in the basement, through a small clear plastic hose with a quarter turn valve to the ball. You never have to get off the ball, it is only about a quarter inch thick when fully deflated. Another easier way to fill the ball is to use the available water pressure at the tap. hope this can be of value to anyone with trouble getting out of the tub, have a good one, R.E.L.

so you have, in effect, a redi-made hydraulic system? no doubt the air system would work but why introduce another power source when we alreadt have 50 psi right there? hmmmm :)

I was just thinkin' (ya, I know, bad move) what happens when the tub is full of water, and the ball you're sittin' on accidently gets inflated with air? YEE HAW, RIDE 'EM COWBOY!

As I suppose you are aware, they make lifts operated by water from the tub faucet. No need for an air supply, etc.. If you check around, I'll be you can find a used one cheap, as that kind of stuff, when it's no longer needed, is tough to sell used.

Here's one on ebay, as an example:
