if someone wrote in a small weekly paper a tirade saying that they had carried a card for ten years stating their rights and how-what to say to a police officer if stopped. what would be your opinion about them,,,i think they must be doing something wrong or they wouldn't be so worried about the police. what do you think? i think probably a dope smoker.

I suppose a newspaper reporter writing about YOUR rights would be a dope smoker...

....and NOT someone who has seen State Police lie on the stand,
.....seen documented investigations of police denying a 17-year-old accused of murder his right to an attorney,
...know DNR officers who trespass and enter people's homes without search warrants or just cause, then accuse magistrates of favortism when they can't convict.

I suppose that reporter is a dope smoker....

.... and not someone who has been threatened or intimidated when attempting to report on such unexcusable behavior by law enforcement,
... who has been harassed daily, and pulled over by police for NO reason whatsoever,
... who is trying to keep readers informed of their rights.

I'm sure that reporter is a dope smoker, and not someone who has seen factual evidence of how police and DNR officers in Calhoun County, West Virginia really behave.

Must be a dope smoker - not and educated, degreed reporter who deals with court cases and actually reads public court documents and internal police investigation reports.

Yeah, I'm sure the person who wrote that is a dope smoker - you close-minded, judgemental idiot. Maybe when they come to your house, bust in the door, and take your guns for having deer meat in your freezer you will understand.

By the way, you can read the whole article (or "tirade" as you put it) online.

I think that person is one who would probably talk themself into a citation or arrest when they might have just been given a warning if they had acted normally. Cops are very interested in someone who seems to have something to hide.....

Miranda rights is only on TV. They do not have to read them to you unless they are going to question you. The last time I was arrested they were not required to read them to me to arrest me. I was only in jail for about ten minutes, and that was ten minutes too long!! My lawyer was waiting at the court house before they got me to town, then the truth came out and my ex ended up spending a couple nights in the slammer for purgery over the deal. Been there, done that!!

What I think is that they're not entirely clean or they're paranoid, or they have a problem with authority. In any case they are living somewhere on the outer fringe of reality.

I'm an old man and I've never had a bad instance involving the police. And, there's a good reason why. I make it a practice not to draw attention to myself and I stay away from low-life people.

ROFLMAO. The only folks I ever saw that could make a brag like that were either bubble boys or snitches.

Now Burr, just because you haven't been associated with decent law abiding citizens ain't no reason for you to make such a comment. Let's face it, you're just jealous of anyone whose name hasn't appeared on a police blotter.

naw that aint exactly right.

I don't find any harm in a person just because they show up on police list tho.

that card toting person could be either the most law abiding person you ever met or a pure hoodlum.

I would imagine as the national debt rises and the state fundings drop lower the cops will go back to frivilous tickets again. They gotta have the money no matter who they hafta shake down.

Through the years I've found that the people that are the most paranoid about the police are the ones who knowingly ignore the laws society has enacted, from the chronic speeders whining about "speed traps" that aren't on up.At it's time the Miranda warning was validly needed due to some depts abuse of power, however it is the duty of a citizen(imho)to be aware of their rights without a "refresher course",And the Miranda is only required before questioning a suspect about a criminal incident, not necessarily at arrest.I've prolly read that silly card to a couple thousand people in the past and never ever had someone deny the understood their rights.Live within the law,and if you do screw up..shut up and as for your/a lawyer.Otherwise don't fret it.

Same way I look at new customers that ask how they know I'm really spending all the hours at their house I'm billing them for. Hmmm, they have a weekend house in Litchfield County,CT. They must be doing that to think I would do that to them.

Ok..My son has a friend..16-17 yrs old..my son is 15..Now everytime he omes to visit and they are out playing ball or whatever and the police go by , my son's friend RUNS!!! EVERY TIME!!!! My son just kinda stands there watching him while the police question HIM as to why his friend RAN!! Now..here is the deal..this boy's parents consistantly smoke reefer. They have made their child as paranoid as they are!! I figure if u follow the laws you have NOTHING to fear!
