..about a goat with a misshappen udder? One of her teats hangs way down low almost touching the ground. I came home to find her completely empty on one side and engorged on the low side, as her two little babies haven't figured out yet to look that low. I milked her out but she pitched a first rate bit*h and tried to kick me to death. Is there anything I can do? Her last kids figured out in a couple of weeks that that side had milk too and then all was fine, but that was a long two weeks.

Cindi.. I read an ariticle where you can get udder supports...or they called it bras for that problem along with many others..Melanie found me a website but I have lost it somewhere...Type udder supports in your search and see if it comes up...I think I might can rig one up myself...KAtG

We have this same problem every year.
We do a few different things to straighten things out.

Milk out the side that the kids are favoring part way forcing them to nurse the other side so that the udder will even out. In time they will get the idea and nurse from both sides.
In order for this to work out your doe is going to have to get used to the idea of being milked like it or not. Some are stubborn but start to come around after a few milking sessions. With some stubborn does you can have someone hold one back leg up while you milk. With one back lag off of the stand they cant jump around as much.

You can try putting some teat tape on the teat that is being favored so that the kids cannot nurse from that side. They will then move to the other side and the tape can be removed.

We also will hold the doe and put a kid on each teat. After a few days each kid will have their own side and the udder will even out.

We've had a nanny that only gives milk on one side and she raises twins just fine, triplets, though need to be bottle supplemented. I suppose you can put something over the side they nurse and keep putting them on the other until they get the idea.

cover their favorite titt with duct tape so they can't nurse it. they'll figger it out and start using the other side moscoshe

Stilts on one side? ...no? sorry ;)

Will momma let you grab a little one and stick a teat in their mouth? Don't know if they will let you handle them that much.

The problem is, it gets so engorged that their little mouths are too small to get around that big ol' nippy. But I may pen her and try that duct tape idea. Who knows, it might just work. If they are forced to nurse it down, it should shrink. Thanks folks!

And no RD, I don't think the stilts would work out. (grin)

here we are in the 21st century, poking arund mars with a soil-sampling, photo-making, remote controlled robot, and we're letting nannys run around with problems like this? hmmph! seems to me between the cloning crowd, plastic surgeons and the wonder bra people, some ceo somewhere wants a bonus bad enough to assign a specialist sheesh!
