Read the Drudge Report about a teacher in California who has been banned from reading the Declaration of Independance to his fifth grade class because it mentions the word "God" in it. The inmates are running the asylum.

I am at a lose for civil words here.

Well.... I read the Drudge Report article, and it leaves me with a lot of questions. The teacher presented a number of historic documents which mentioned God. The unanswered question is whether the teacher singled out specifically the sections mentioning God, in furtherance of his religious views, which is what appears to have happened according to one account. The Drudge Report also printed the name and telepohone number of the principal, which was not something a news source ought to do.

All information concerning public education paid for by taxpayers EXCEPT private information about students is a matter of public record.
All of the employees of public schools here(myself included) are required to allow public access to their name, address and working phone. A call to the local courthouse will give anyone access to my ph number, my home address and all salaries of all employees of our local school district. Probably the same lots of other places. The news article probably just reported what is generally considered public information. JMO

You're right, of course. They changed the information, anyway, to a general list of numbers for the school district.

You don't have to take Drudge's word for it.

The Lawsuit-    Posted 11-24-2004 at 19:44:58       [Reply]  [No Email]
Here is the actual legal document/lawsuit.

The "offending" material includes excerpts from historical documents, as well as:

What Great Leaders have Said About The Bible

Fact Sheet: Currency and Coins: History of Origin of "In God We Trust"

as well as others. Maybe they are not propaganda at all, just factual history. But, maybe it is propaganda. There is always more to the story.

If they posted a true court filing I would say that the teacher's problem is from passing out religious tracts instead of reading the constitution to the class.

The constitution context and reading seems to be thrown in to smoke folks off what really happened there.

I tend to agree. The teacher is the plaintiff.

I have noticed alot of the so called Bible reading and commandment bannings are usually clouded by an under reported story such as the religious tracts in this case.

I'm a christian man myself and have never seen it in any version of the Bible that I should use lies or false advertisement to evangelize anybody.

All I see is the same ole same ole from christian and pagan alike it is a me-me-me attitude.

The name of any principal is public knowledge/record...If I know the name of the town and state I can get any principals names, work number and usually home phone if listed (or anyone else that works for any pulic agency or department)...

Comes with the territory
