Thanksgiving as usual, almost,

Woke up this morning to our first snow, just a skif and blowing around. Did my usual Thanksgiving morning things like sharpening the chain saws, oiled up the deer gun and brought a load of wood home for the shop. Now I get to do the fun part, clean up and wait for the inlaws to get here for dinner, maybe the roads will get too slick, hee hee. Big difference is no smoking. Been 6 days now since I quit and I am over the hump I think, ate breakfast this morning and didn't miss my smokes for the first time. Thanks again for the support.

GOOD FOR YOU! Hang in there, it IS worth it.

Definitely one of the Top Ten Smartest Things I Ever Did.

They say that after two weeks a thing becomes a habit. So if you can kick them for two weeks you've got it made. I may try it myself. I threatened all last year to quit, and now I have this cough...

maybe i can encourage you cindi - you can smoke right up thru the first stroke - just don't be even dumber like i was.. let's say we're lucky and don't even hafta hear the C-word - oh it's really not so bad - you get used to having strangers wipe your butt and scrub you tweeners - and having somebody feed you & drooling thru the slurred words can be almost fun. that direct enough for ya? can you say bedpan? how bout depression? resentment? self-loathing? how bout mourning the loss of once-useful limbs? looking forward to spending an undetermined amount of time without walking or leaving the house? feel like you're in the way? how often you thought of ending it? oh i can give you a million benefits of smoking - dam right - smoke til ya puke! :)

Do it, Girl!

Nothing personal, I smoked myself, but smoking has to be one of the top ten dumbest habits on the planet!

The links between smoking and all sorts of serious bad stuff are inarguable. A person wouldn't take up standing next to a nuclear reaction, whyinhell with all the information available these days would they take up smoking?

I started in the 60's, quit in 1976. Much as I'd like to have the excuse that I didn't know any better, the fact of the matter is I was young and stupid, and thought it made me "cool".

Not to mention the expense. My wife (who still smokes, I know better than to lecture her about it...) goes through $200 a month worth of those damned things.

I know, I know. How do they get to us so badly? I want to quit.

Patria    Posted 11-25-2004 at 08:27:49       [Reply]  [No Email]
Have been telling Gerrit I want to quit..matter of fact? before November ends..
The thing is, he's not even considering about quitting himself, so I'm wondering how you managed to quit when your wife did not.

Cussed orneryness, mostly.

Gave up drinkin' the same way: Cold Turkey.

I've never been worth a hoot at taperin' off anything. Either do it, or don't do it, it's the only thing that works for me.

I found that keeping my hands busy was the key for me. Kids had a big construction set. I built the entire City of New York one building at a time over about a 2 week period ":^)

After that initial couple of weeks, it got a lot easier.

Seems like I smoke less when I'm working on my jigsaw puzzles. I finished one of a NH covered bridge and now I'm almost through another one, of a Mill in WA.
I definitely need to quit, my health hasn't been too good lately..hb pressure.
And I will quit. I guess everyone starts 'thinking' about it before they actually say out loud to someone. And I kept quiet whenever a thread about quitting smokes were going around in KL..:-)
Now I went and got it out in the open. Big mouthed Patria. This is it. I'll do it tomorrow.

Good fer you! Literally...

We had a feller on another board that was quitting, and we opened up a Quick Topic discussion board to give him a place to come when he needed help. Sorta like an AA Meeting for smokers. Seemed to help him.

I did it...

Wife still smokes, although about half as much as she did when I was doing 60-80 a day...

Just quit...

You can not take the splinter from your brothers eye, till you remove the log from yours...

I know I will be tempted. We sit at the porch enjoying a coffee, lit a cig and talk talk talk.
We smoke at the comps.
We smoke at parties, and we already have invitations I'm not going to refuse.
The thing is, I barely smoke when the family is around. I quit 25 years ago, and started again five years ago.

Can't you at least get them cheaper from the Indians?

Fawteen    Posted 11-25-2004 at 08:17:00       [Reply]  [No Email]
Not easily or legally, AFAIK.

I'd tell her if she's gonna continue to smoke, she'll have to get a job and buy her own, but I plan to live here another 30 years or so...

What's illegal about going through or one of the many others?

Fawteen    Posted 11-25-2004 at 08:43:50       [Reply]  [No Email]
Something about tax evasion, I thought. Could be wrong.

Fawteen - Besides    Posted 11-25-2004 at 08:44:36       [Reply]  [No Email]
the expense is the one tool that might bully her into quitting. Don't wanna do anything to make it easier for her.

Tell her    Posted 11-25-2004 at 08:56:08       [Reply]  [No Email]
for the cost of the smokes, she could buy sheself a BRAND NEW FANCY dress every month, maybe two or more!! :-)

Fawteen    Posted 11-25-2004 at 09:10:34       [Reply]  [No Email]
Dresses and jewelry and such don't do a thing for her. One of the reasons I love her...

She'd druther have a new truck. $200 a month won't take her there, but it'd sure help!
