Got my notice of what my 2005 property taxes will be. Value of my property increased $10,000. Property taxes increased 45.2%. Went from about $500 to $750. I sure am glad the govenor was able to keep his pledge and not raise state taxes. Seems he was just able to pass it down to the local level.

Mine are $2300 for .25 acres. Not a typo, that is 1/4 acre.

7.94 Acres and a house that is less than 1000 sq feet and we pay $3,000+/year...That is 4.2%/year of the purchase price I paid in the late 80's

I live in Connecticut. My local property taxes for 1500sq.ft. house, one acre and a couple of older vehicles is around $5600. Then there is the income tax that our exgovernor added about 10years ago. The sad fact is that we get little for our dollar and the state is still looking for more.

Just talked to one of my customers the other day about his taxes. Small house on like 2 acres, $9000. Make you feel a bit better!?

well the property taxes are levied by the counties based on what everybody wants built or repaired that year. once the total expense is found, it's just a matter of distrubiting the increases to avoid a unified tax confrontation. nobody wants to pay more but inflation costs hafta be covered.:)

Sure inflation costs have to be covered, but the government (at all levels) needs to become more fiscally responsible with the dollars they collect.

Not in California. It's 1% of what you paid for the place.

Boy would I like that! My taxes are 10% of what I
paid, course that's 35 years ago.
