Zenia here... I gave my Au pair (like a nanny, but from Czech Republic/ exchange student) a round trip ticket to Cincinnati. She has a friend in Kentucky who plans to meet her at the airport tonight... But the airport is (still?) closed!

Grrr I cannot get enough information off the United Airlines website, and the UA telephone lines take me through that horrid phone tree then revert to busy. From the weather, I can't tll when/ if the airport will open.

She's supposed to be flying out of Sacramento, CA today at 1:30, stopping over at O'Hare, then on to Cincinnati. The Chicago leg is not cancelled, but I'd hate for her to get stuck in Chicago. Part of me feels like I ought to give her hotel money, but I wonder if the airlines will put her up?? I can't get through! I remember once flying back from Mardi Gras with a stop in Salt Lake City the airpline put us up in a hotel. It was 6 degres out. But maybe that was because the flight was late, I guess the airline only does that when it's their fault? Not for bad weather?

Aw, man! She's not sure if she should go. No refund on the ticket, though.

Checking the all day flights, I can only see the first flight in to Cincinnati is cancelled...

And here I thought it was so cold because there was frost on my roof this morning...

Cheap is relative... Yes/ no... it works out to about $1300.00/ month for full time, plus they are live-in. Google Au Pair. The cost that nails me is the car insurance and she is really hard on my car. But she's sweet, and the boys adore her. They are in preschool part time too, mornings.

O hare will be a good experience for her. What a jumbled up airport to be in.

Unless you want to eat that ticket, send her. Even if she gets hung up in Chicago, it will be an adventure for her to remember. Heck, she's already in a foreign country. She should be able to stand Chicago.
Check out the link. Looks like the bad weather has already departed and things might even get back to normal eventually.

Thanks!

That looks sort of reassuring. I think she ought to go, too.
