Patria, I just saw on the news where they had a big hunk of I-89 closed yesterday up his way because it had become like a skating rink. Not that I expect he might have been out on it but one never knows. Same thing happened here yesterday on I-93. So many cars (mostly SUVs and Minivans) piled up in the median. Dang stupid people don't have a clue about driving. Flatlanders mostly. They figure they got 4WD so just keep right on a-flyin down the road. I ain't never seen the situation yet where 4WD helps you steer or stop.

Hey Lester, good you dropped by..:-), I'll wish a very Happy New Year to you and also to your family!

Read it twice, still had to ask Gerrit what would you mean with the skating rink 'concept'.hehehe oh well..too much sun I guess!

No, don't ask what I thought it was, I'm sure he had a nice celebration over some bourbon maybe? and he took the day off to chill.

Anyway, let's keep hollering till he answers..

Surely you've heard (from Gerritt at least) of Hans Brinker? I think he's the one who made Sonja Henie's tutu for her!
New Year's greetings to you both.

Sonja was a Babe, eh?

You are both wrong...No I-89 at all for me...Ever...I can get anywere that road goes without ever having to use that Eisenhower concept...

And no...I quit drinking yesterday at 6 pm (and that was only 2 shots and a diet soda) then went to bed...Got up today and did a bit of work with my wood and then went to my sister Sams' place for the afternoon/evening...Played boardgames for about 6 hours and had a blast...

Thanks for worrying...

:-)

Salmoneye,

So you were having fun..see? I was right.

We had a glass of a fine whiskey Gerrit brought from Holland; for years, he had it stored in his old room. Said it was one of the bottles of his small wiskey collection that were stolen from his car. Brought back to him by a police officer's call, I believe. And old story, the ones you hear around Thanks Giving's Day and Christmas time of good winning over evil!! LOL!!

Anyway..good to see you Salmoneye.:-)

Glad you have him back safe...

Holidays are 'difficult' enough without having loved-ones in transit...

I sincerely hope that this new year brings you peace and happiness...

You're trying to get me all blushed and teary eyed do you?

Not going to happen. LOL!!

Thanks for the flower..:-)

But you still didn't tell me how's the girl doing?

Salmoneye    Posted 01-01-2005 at 20:00:33       [Reply]  [No Email]
The Girl is getting smarter every day...Well...Maybe not 'smarter', but she soaks up 'knowledge' like I wish I could...

About to have a growth spurt I would say...

I remember my 'little' sisters when they started to 'convert' from girls to women...The process takes a while, but they always seem to start early (and carry on forever lol) in our family...It usually starts somewhere around 9-10...I see the precursors already and she is only 'pushing' 8...

Dang...I remember that age and the 'tearing' apart of your childhood psyche...Wanting/Needing to be more...

How the heck did we ever make it out of childhood?...Not only the physical challenges, but the mental and spiritual challenges also?...

Did I cause my parents this much angst when I was 7???

How the hell did they survive raising us?

ARGHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

LOL

well

you did ask now, didn't you?

;-)

PS.....The Rose is for you...And he better have brought you more than some smelly old whiskey from his hometown...

He should have brought you fine silks and ambrosia...

And sent ME the whiskey LOL

PPS.....Thank you for asking about The Girl...I will post pics some day soon...She is a pistol...

I know what you mean about being 9, and better yet about being the parent of one.. but the train has just departed, and you're in it!! And it is a wonderful journey. Enjoy the ride..:-)
The rewards are going to be endless.

I'll be waiting for the promised pics.

Glad you and yours are fine.

hm..but now you got me thinking, don't know where the fine silks and the ambrosia went.

Thanks again Salmoneye:-)

Blame it on the jet lag. LOL

Happy New Year to you too, Lester!

Wasn't Hans Brinker the guy who was skating with Sonia Henie on that dyke next to the I89 and won the silver skates??

Actually Hans Brinkers isn't very well known in Holland at all - the story was writen by an American(!) writer.

I found a nice link:

I asked Gerrit about the guy and his tutu designing venture..! he knew nada about it.

I'm sure Gerrit, eventually, will shed some light over this. hehehe

Les    Posted 01-01-2005 at 18:58:17       [Reply]  [No Email]
Well, I mighta made up that part about him designing the tutu for Sonja (Sonia?)";^) The only reason I threw that in there was because it's kind of an inside joke for those who listen to Car Talk with Click and Clack. Although I haven't heard them mention Sonja Henie's tutu for quite some time. Maybe that's because I usually listen to them on Saturday when I'm going to the dump and I haven't done that lately.

Gerrit    Posted 01-01-2005 at 19:05:53       [Reply]  [No Email]
Our radio clicks and clacks a lot but we don't have Car Talk on it over here lol..

Maybe Sonja wasn't mentioned 'cause she died back in '69?? I remeber "our" Sjoukje Dijkstra, who also was olympic champion figure skating ( in '64 ) She was no Babe though :-)

I put the fan on today for you guys. Did you get the heat up there? About 55 down here today!
Calling for ice tomorrow and Wednesday here. OY! Means we'll have to go out sanding driveways. Scary out there in that weather. Thankfully the weekenders won't be around.
