A friend's family recently bought some farmland at $3000+ per acre in Northern Indiana. OF course, it is very tillable, rich flat loam that is well drained. The quality of the soil is the important issue here.

Here is a site I use often to check real estate prices in areas I am not familiar with.

Under the Find A Home section, there are two links: More Search Options and Map Search. Go to Map Search and you can zero in on the area you are interested in. Choose the local area(s) and then narrow your search to Farms and/or Land. You'll get a good idea of the area prices if you are buying or wanting to sell.

land here now is about 60 to 65 thousand an acre, when i bought this place in 87 i paid 2000 a acre, id like to stay but the tourists and yuppies have gotten the best of me, im looking at a farm community about a hundred miles farther into the province but things are getting expensive there too, guess people are realizing that land is a good investment.

I may be looking at 60 acres in south eastern MO this weekend. Ponds, live creek, woods & pasture, etc. I am hoping for approx $1000 an acre before I can seriously consider it.
