Anyone Rememberů.
....this or these? It could well have only been a Midwestern thing.
Not to give it away, I'll comment a couple lines on it later. Right now I would enjoy reading other folks experiences with its significance.

I think I'm wrong for the first time in my life AGAIN. lol Went to look for it and can't find it, imagine that. The more I thought of it it was Wisconsin Agriculturalist and said Racine WI. I remember it used to be on the barn on this place and was before 1950. Our's was white background or was that different than yours altogether? Never heard of them paying out around here. Guess the star just reminded you of the sheriff Bill

Isn't that a Prairie Farmer protective sign. Guess if you put it on your property and someone stole something and was caught they would give a reward.Their salesman used to travel around. The magazine had alot of machinery ads. I think they were out of IL. Sound pretty close to right? Bill

By the way I think I have a white one in the barn. Wasn't that older than the yellow one?

Nope. Didn't have 'em around here. That one looks like it was just put up. Tree hasn't even growed around it at all.
Back in my growing up days, it was uncommon for people to post their land. And there's still a lot of unposted land. My family owns about 500 acres and we have never posted any of it. People hunt on it all the time and we don't particularly know or care. A lot of our land borders the National Forest and people may not even know whose land they're on a lot of the time.
Maybe it's a unique thing in these parts but we consider that we have the "privilege of trespass". The day is probably coming when that will end. Too bad.

Sure do. I even have one somewhere around here with my name on it. In fact there may even be one floating around here somewhere with the name of a previus resident of this farm.
