Local humane society.

Here in our local, liberal, left wing county seat of Bloomington, Indiana the local humane society is always asking for donations to "help the poor homeless pets who will otherwise have to be put down". Well, we've all been pretty generous lately with our donations and tax dollars. Just this week they unveiled a new $5,0000 limestone statue of a dog to put in front of the building. No one knew it had been ordered from a local sculptor but the board of directors. Funds came from the mayors discretionary arts fund. In other words: taxes. I'm suitably peeved. That money would have bought a lot of dog and cat food and bedding. What do you think? Jim.

Some folks got no sense of responsibility. A monument to their own vain self importance.

In down town Falls Church, Va, next to the Volvo dealership, and miles from the nearest farm, is a life size aluminum sculpture of a farmer slopping some pigs. Right on the street corner with Route 7.
But I understand that the owner of the volvo dealership paid for and donated the sculpture. He's kind of a strange bird anyway, also donated volvo's for police cars to the town of Falls Church a few yrs back. Sure was strange seeing a volvo police car.

Oops. Too many zeros. Should have been five thousand dollars. Sorry.

I am sure the statue was commissioned for the living pups to have some place to relieve themselves. My guess is there is no fire hydrant in front of the building.

No seriously, this is the same crap that goes on all the time. I believe it is time to call the Mayor and find out why he/she thought this was an important project to fund. Chances are, the Mayor had no clue the Humane Society was in such dire straights with their money. If nothing else, you may feel better and the mayor may get on the phone as chew someone out.

Tou thinmk that's bad. Consider this:

Several years ago the people of Utah funded a statue through their tax dollars to place a "statue"(?) out beside the highway on I-80 West of Salt Lake City. The only people that could see it was those travelling I-80 during daylight hours. It cost, as I recall, about $150,000. Personally I think it is the ugliest thing I ever saw. I have yet to figure out what it represents. It is just a big iron pole about 6-8 ft in diameter with two huge balls about 12 ft in circumference attached to it. Yeah that's what it reminds me of too (before the wise cracks start).

The money came out of ther endowment for the arts.

Burr, You ain't right, ya do know that dontcha??LOL
You folks need to appreciate how foreign all this sounds. Here in Poverty patch, we're having a real fight.
Half of Borough council wants to upgrade our Borough hall. They want stuff like running water, bathrooms, and maybe even heat.
The other half says, Why bother for an hour a month meeting. Our only municipal building is the old one room school house. It's pretty much as it was when the doors closed, including all of the book stored on the second floor.
We have no computer, no fax, no TELEPHONE! We aren't even listed in the phone book.
We used to have a business here, but the Pepsi machine didn't bring in enough revenue to pay the electric bill, so the Borough fathers had it removed....
