As most of you know, had a partial knee replacement a few weeks ago. Got the hospital bill Sat listing charges.
Don;t mind the $575 a day for room. $3717 for OR Somehow got $900 worth of pills in two days. Central supplies for $1622 seems high.
Iv was inexpensive $125
O R supplies were $9477, that is a lot of money.
But, listen to this. Physical Therapy, $283.
that charge was for 1 p therapist and a helper. who got me out of bed walked me 4 steps till I got sick and had to go back to my bed. That is plain outragous. I would like to protest this, even though Medicare and my medigap policy takes care of this, I hope. Guess the question is, why stir up a storm? I just hate to see such an inflated sum of charges, cause this goes on all the time

When I broke my foot falling of the roof I ended up at the hospital on my dime. The guy came in the room and glanced at my X-Ray and said you need to go into surgery now! I ask how much and he said around 30,000.00 for pining the bones back in place. I blew it and no way are you going to do that I have no insurance!! He said it had to be done now. Well I said I am going home to give it more thought and he filped and said you can't you need it done now! I just told him people in poor countrys just let the broken bones heal back up and said sign me out. I got a bill for over 800.00 for him talking to me. X-Ray was extra to the cost. Called the VA and said I am in a big hurt and need fixing. 2 Days later still in real pain I got to the VA Hospital and they wanted to pin it also but I said no just put a cast on it and call it good. The foot was still straite and the bones were together just broke up. 6 Weeks later I was using the foot again and VA picked up the bill for it. Sitting at home with the foot broke in 3 places and no pain pills was a depresing, painfull time but worth it in the end. Hope to never go thru that again in my life!! Mark H.

My wife was checking out of the hospital in LEESBURG, fl. the nurse and I were getting all her things ready and ask if I wanted a bag to carry everything in. I said yes that would help a lot of help. She brought back a plain white plastic bag like grocery stores use. The bill came with a $7.59 charge for one plastic bag.

last year i was scheduled for 4 visits t the local hspitals rehab. the visits were 1-hr sessins with a shared therapist. after 2 visits i quit going- the clowns wanted $500/hour! i told them i wouldn't pay that much for a mechanic on air force one & quit going.i figure it all gets to my wallet eventually. :)

Knew a lady once that was getting bottled oxygen for her husband. When he got to be 65 she still got the oxygen at the same place, but the price went from 1X to 3X. All just because Medicare started picking up the tab.

Having this debate in Maryland right now. Losing doctors like crazy...malpractice insurance is outrageously expensive. But most of it is due to folks trying to get rich quick off of lawsuits when something either actually goes wrong or else just doesn't suit them.

So you can't blame the doctors, phys therapists, hospital, you gotta blame our society which is willing to sue at the drop of a hat even if it means shutting down healthcare.

While a agree that the majority of costs aren't health related. Most of them are court related, I do have a problem with the system.
If you're going to charge $6.00 for an OTC ibuprofin, then bill it up front. .15 for the pill and $5.85 to pay legal fees.
It isn't the lawyers, they're providing a service just like the Drs. are.
Until we reform the malpractice laws, we're gonna keep on paying these inflated prices.
