(IMHO, of course) was "Love me like you used to".
You got that one, ~Lenore?

Kevin    Posted 01-03-2006 at 16:11:41       [Reply]  [Send Email]
All of her songs are great. I have the boxed set from 1994 (I think, it's not with me right now) and several CDs. It's crazy to think she was singing and famous over a decade before I was born.

One of my all-time favorites, Down to My Last Teardrop. Also, My Heart Stays Open, (songs from that era), but I love all of them, truly!

ditto on that delta dawn! did she really sing that at 13???

Redneck    Posted 01-31-2005 at 03:54:37       [Reply]  [No Email]
Ain't too many of her's that I don't like. Most of new ones could take lessons from her.

I really like Patty Loveless (sp?) too. She's in that same kind of catagory.

I put a pic I took at her concert in photo gallery. She was at the Ga International Horse Park here last year. She is showing her age as we all do in time.

Now look what you did. Had to play my CD of Tanya's 20 Greatest Hits. Haven't played it in a while.

That one, and one I don't know the title to, but it refers to a tree in the backyard, and says "our love will last forever, as long as we're strong enough to bend".

Title - strong enough to    Posted 01-30-2005 at 19:16:43       [Reply]  [No Email]
There's a tree out in the backyard
That never has been broken by the wind
And the reason its still standing
It was strong enough to bend

For years, we have stayed together
As lovers and as friends
What we have will last forever
If we're strong enough to bend

When you say something that you can't take back
Big wind blows and you hear a little crack
When you say "Hey well I might be wrong"
You can sway with the wind till the storm is gone
Sway with the wind till the storm is gone

Like a tree out in the backyard
That never has been broken by the wind
Our love will last forever
If we're strong enough to bend

When you start thinkin' that you know it all
Big wind blows and a branch will fall
When you say "Hey this job takes two"
We can sway with the wind till the skies turn blue
Sway with the wind till the skies turn blue

Like a tree out in the backyard
That never has been broken by the wind
Our love will last forever if we're strong enough to bend
Our love will last forever if we're strong enough to bend.

She got a real early start! ";^) Weren't she only about 14 when she hit the big time?
BTW, I like just about all of her music. Somebody else in this thread mentioned "What's your mama's name, child?". That may be my second favorite of hers.

That's OK, don't look all that freshly minted myself. Had an Uncle that said "people's like cars, it's not the model that shows, it's the mileage."(sp?)

Saw her on the Gretchen Wilson video and I guess all the hard living caught up with her.

Down To My Last Teardrop Lyrics
Artist(Band):Tanya Tucker

Down To My Last Teardrop Lyrics

They said your love life's in trouble in a magazine I read
When the one you love is hangin' off of his side of the bed
Baby, your just barley hanging on
Honey I know you'll soon be gone

And I don't need my palm read to know what lies ahead
I can see you in the arms of another girl instead
Baby this ain't the first time that youve done this to me
Honey it's gonna be the last time

And I know that you'll be thinkin' I'll be goin' out of my mind
Crying you a river that winds and winds and winds
Oh but baby I'm down to my last teardrop this time

I don't care who or what you're doin'
Ain't gonna be no more boohooin'
Baby this time I swear it's the truth
I ain't gonna cry no more for you
Uh-uh

Now I know where I'm goin' baby I know where I'm bound
I've been rearanging chairs on a ship that's goin' down
Baby, just step aside if you would
Honey, it's really over for good

And you might want to talk to me, you might want to call
But you won't hear nothin' out of me at all
Cause Baby, I ain't got nothin' left to say
Honey, I'll just be on my way

And I know that you'll be thinkin' I'll be goin' out of my mind
Crying you a river that winds and winds and winds
Oh but baby I'm down to my last teardrop this time

I don't care who or what you're doin'
Ain't gonna be no more boohooin'
Baby this time I swear it's the truth
I ain't gonna cry no more for you

And I know that you'll be thinkin' I'll be goin' out of my mind
Crying you a river that winds and winds and winds
Oh but baby I'm down to my last teardrop
Baby I'm down to my last teardrop
Baby I'm down to my last teardrop this time

"Texas When I Die" is her best; and I'm not even a Texan. Donna from Mo

~Lenore    Posted 01-30-2005 at 20:04:38       [Reply]  [No Email]
My two favorites are "Texas" and "It's a Little Too Late"
I will play one above in another thread so they dont play together.
The little player does have a "stop" button though. :-)

Wasn't one of first songs something about: Would you lay with me in a field of stone? Sorry, don't remember all the words : )

Bob    Posted 01-30-2005 at 20:59:54       [Reply]  [No Email]
Would you lay with me
In a field of stone
If my needs were strong
Would you lay with me

Should my lips grow dry
Would you wet them dear
In the midnight hour
If my lips were dry

Would you go away to another land
Walk a thousand miles through the burning sand
Wipe the blood away from my dying hand
If I give myself to you

Will you bathe with me in the stream of life
When the moon is full
Will you bathe with me

Will you still love me when I'm down and out
In my time of drought will you stand by me

Would you go away to another land
Walk a thousand miles through the burning sand
Wipe the blood away from my dying hand
If I give myself to you

Would you lay with me
In a field of stone
Should my lips grow dry
Would you wet them dear
Will you bathe with me
In the stream of life
Will you still love me
When I'm down and out

(Lyrics by David Allen Coe)

Thanks Bob : ) Do you happen to know the words to this one too? "What's your mamas name child, what's your mamas name. Has she ever mentioned a place called New Orleans? Does she ever mention a man named ______ Wilson? What's your mamas name child, what's your mamas name". These are the only words I know of that one. Was the mans name Beauford Wilson? I'm thinking it started with a B. Delta Dawn was a good one too : )

DD,

Just Google it!

Artist/Band: Tucker Tanya

Lyrics for Song: What's Your Momma's Name, Child

What's your mama's name, child?
What's your mama's name.

Thirty some odd years ago, a young man came to Memphis.
Asking 'bout a rose that used to blossom in his world.
People never too the time to mind the young man's questions,
Until one day they heard him ask a little green-eyed girl:

What's your mama's name, child?
What's your mama's name?
Does she ever talk about a place called New Orleans.
Has she ever mentioned a man named Buford Wilson?
What's your mama's name, child?
What's your mama's name?

Twenty some off years ago, a drunkard down in Memphis,
Lost a month of life in labour to the county jail.
Just because he asked a little green-eyed girl a question,
And offered her a nickel's worth of candy if she'd tell.

A year and some odd days ago, an old man died in Memphis.
Just another wayward soul, the county'd had to pay.
Inside the old man's ragged coat, they found a faded letter.
It said: "You have a daughter and her eyes are Wilson green."

What's your mama's name, child?
What's your mama's name?
Does she ever talk about a place called New Orleans.
Has she ever mentioned a man named Buford Wilson?
What's your mama's name, child?
What's your mama's name?

What's your mama's name, child?
What's your mama's name?

I'll second that, and I'm not from Texas either!

I saw her up close at a concert at a nearby casino a year or so ago. She's a little worse for wear, but still put on a heck of a show, and was personable.

However, I also saw Terri Clark at the same place a few months later, and well, let's say her tires haven't yet been rotated as many times a Tanya's!

Miguel    Posted 05-19-2007 at 21:19:44       [Reply]  [No Email]
Ya know why???? Terry Clark has been in the biz for WHAT, 10 years and Miss T has been in for 36 years. Do the math, we all know that Tanya is 48 and Terry is what 39??? I'm a Terry Clark fan, BUT, Tanya has FORGOTTEN MORE SONGS THAN TERRY HAS EVER MEMORIZED IN A LIFE TIME.....This is what ya call a legend! Rock on Tanya...
