Salmoneye old buddy, i think i disproved your solution: according to condition 2, once mixed you now would have a dilution.

1. There are 2 beakers each containing an equal amount of liquids

2. Both liquids have similar properties with regards to molecule size, specific weight, and density (they will mix into a homogeneous solution)

Procedures
beaker 2............beaker 1
XXXXXX..........OOOOOO
XXXXXX..........OOOOOO
XXXXXX...<....OOOOOO

1. Take a teaspoon of the liquid in beaker 1 and mix it into beaker 2

Move 6 parts (one teaspoon) or 1/3 (amount makes no difference)

beaker 2............beaker 1
XXXXXX..........OOOOOO
XXXXXX..........OOOOOO
XXXXXX
OOOOOO

2. After thorough mixing

beaker 2............beaker 1
XX0XX0..........OOOOOO
XX0XX0..........OOOOOO
XX0XX0
XX0XX0

take a teaspoon of the [diluted] mixture in beaker 2 and mix it into the liquid in beaker 1

XX0XX0..........OOOOOO
XX0XX0..........OOOOOO
XX0XX0..........XX0XX0

after mixing:
beaker 2............beaker 1
XX0XX0..........XOOOXO
XX0XX0..........OOOXOO
XX0XX0..........OOXOOO

beaker 2 now contains 12 parts of X, while beaker 1 contains 14 parts of 0.
thus A) more of the liquid in beaker 1 mixed into beaker 2 ----matter of fact under these conditions, like moving halfway closer to your girlfriend each time & never reaching her, beaker 1 will never get as Xy as beaker 2. :)

How many 'O's do you see on the left in your example...

I count 8, when you only moved 6...And you also now have 2 less X's than you started with on the left

Salmoneye,

A better proof...    Posted 02-02-2005 at 04:16:47       [Reply]  [No Email]
You have 2 containers

1 has 100 white marbles the other has 100 black marbles

If you take 20 black marbles and mix them in with the white marbles you now have a mixture of 120 marbles 20 of which are black

Then you reach into that mix and grab another 20 marbles ... any combination of white and black marbles will work.

Say you pull out 15 white and 5 black and mix them back into the 80 black marbles the count is now

85 white and 15 black in container 1
and
85 black and 15 white in container 2

We will do a few more just to show you it works all the time

Say you pull out 19 white and 1 black and mix them back into the 80 black marbles the count is now

81 white and 19 black in container 1
and
81 black and 19 white in container 2

Say you pull out 0 white and 20 black and mix them back into the 80 black marbles the count is now

100 white and 0 black in container 1
and
100 black and 0 white in container 2

last one

Say you pull out 20 white and 0 black and mix them back into the 80 black marbles the count is now

80 white and 20 black in container 1
and
80 black and 20 white in container 2

It works the same way with the liquid ....

Some find this one easy other think it is counter intuitive.....

Y'all have left the lids off them beakers long
enough for EVAPORATION to have occurred! Soooo,
you'll now have to figger the rate of evaporation
for each of the properties of each beaker to
determine volume of solution-L-O-L >>Gene>>>
