Went to a meeting of our volunteer ambulance
service tonight. Sounds like there's a
movement by the corp. ambulance services in
the state to rid the state of the small rural and
volunteer services. If things keep on track all
but the big services will no longer exsist in
MN. If that happens instead of folks having an
ambulance respond in a few minutes they
could be waiting 1/2 hour to an hour..

Well if that is the way then many folks will be dying at home, in accidents....sad oh so sad.

It burns me to no end.....state programs being cut everywhere, where as fed. gov. is sending more tax dollars, $$$$$$$$ to Iraq. We had this happen in Viet Nam, a no win no win deal, but our gov. built countries up......logic not too clear, but local agencies in each and every one of our states, suffer. We lose, and most of ours is donations, with some help from state, agencies.

dont want to start a brand war here but if you look at the new national budget Scrub submitted it explains the problem.

Thing is with us our operating money comes
from donations. Utilities have a deal called
operation round up which rounds your bill to
the next $ and difference goes to community
services. They also have a drive every fall for
ambulance and fire dept.

We charge 0 for responding, the service we're
attached to charges $400 for a transport
nothing if they just respond. Great Plains out
of Thief charges $800 just to pull their rig out
of the garage then $9 a mile whether they haul
you or not.

Our local service is all volunteer responders but it has some paid folks on staff to qualify for Fed money.

I don't remember what the call out rates are here but the son's wreck was over $4000 to transport him 11 miles plus another $900 in supplies. That was 2 years ago and they've had at least 2 more increases.

And I was miffed cause they charged me $950
to pick up my wife 4 miles out of town and I
already brought her the first 20
