Well, I went and splurged on a Starbucks yesterday since I was feeling a bit low... on my way out the door I saw a headline on the paper that said six schools were getting closed. I felt sorry for those parents of the kids at those schools, and went back to work. Then, on my drive home, they read out the list of closures, and guess what? Yep, the school my kids go to is on that list. What the he!!... I lost it. People driving next to me prolly thought I was loony as I drove along beating my fist on the steering wheel, hollering, "DA**IT!!!!" at the top of my lungs. So now I gotta contact the program administrator for the special program my oldest is in, and my baby's nominated for, and see if the school being closed affects the program, or if they'll just select another facility and move. One other little item: our county voted in a new tax for three years, of which we are in the third year now, to go straight to funding our schools. Now I ask you, why the he!! have I been paying this dang tax, poor as I am, when my kids get messed over anyhow??? I am just livid!!!!!!!

It seems we get to fund a new tax for the schools here on every turn. Last time it was voted on at a state level and was defeated hands down. All the folks want to know before we hand over more money is an accounting of what you did with the last handfull we just gave you. Seems there are lots of high paid do-nothings in the system that needs to stay on top of their game and the only way to do that is to increase taxes.

Don't forget smaller families too, not like the 8-12 kids used to have, these days 1-2 children are tops and since so many of the young couples are waiting until later to start families, the counties in our area is population based.

with constantly rising costs, everything in the budget is based on attendance - has school enrollment been dropping? if so, you're moving toward a merger. either that or another tax hike. be thankful they're trying. houston got an attendance award by lieing about dropout rates.

might give us a link to the newspaper to read why the schools are being closed. Sometimes it is neccessary to merge them together. Happens here a lot. Some are happy, some are not. You just don't close 6 schools and throw the kids out on the street. REt

I can see why so many people are upset. Putting 12 year olds with 18 year olds is a big mistake. Seems like the school system there is really out of whack. REt

News reporter on tv did a special about the Cleveland schools. Seems the report 62-, 63 65 kids riding the school bus every day when in reality there will be 20 or 26, some low number. seems the state pays the school for the transportation costs by how many kids ride the buses. Cleveland is always crying about not enough money. And the first thing these schools say when they need money, no more school buses. What the h*** are they doin with all this money. that our taxes pay for????? From what they said the high amont of kids they say they report is the amount of kids they COULD carry.

Melanie, you are a perfect candidate. The school board is a great entry level into local politics. RUN FOR OFFICE, Run hard and very very loud. If you lose, start your next campaign the day after the election. It's a thankless job, but it needs to be filled by parents of students. Not hot heads but parents that can take an objective look at the needs of the students, and weigh them agains the load on the taxpayers. If you can figure out what Starbucks sells, you can serve on your school board. LOL I'm not being a smarta** I really mean it. Start your campaign today. You've got legitimate questions, now put yourself where you can get the answers, and then give the answers. Good luck Ron, the PA chairman of the Melanie for schoolboard election committee.

You know, that's not a half bad idea. I already fired off an e-mail to the program administrator asking what I could do, and left my home and work #s with her. I'll do what I have to to ensure my kids get their rights, and I'll make waves wherever there're big fish in little ponds to make sure it happens. So maybe... heh, heh...
