Thinking of purchasing a Allis Chalmers 5040 with a loader. Never seen one before. Would someone be kind enough to give me some advise or information on this tractor?
Gas or disesel etc...
Are parts easy accessible?
What should I really be looking at before purchasing?

Thank you so much.
We live in Canada.

Hi,John........My dad bought a 5050 new in '84 or so. I know, this is not a 5040, but from what I have learned, they are very similiar. It has a really sound motor and transmission. We have had more problems with the brakes than you would expect. About all you get when you step on the brake is a loud squeal, not much brake. We have also had a little problem(twice) with the steering. It has the worm gear with the ball, and they have to be replaced. This tractor was made in Italy or Romania by Fiat, I think. I think it is basically a good tractor.

Hey John,We have a 5040 we bought in 1984..it is still running great..the only problem we have had(if you can call it one) is we replaced the tie rod ends do to the weight of the front loader..been a great tractor for its size..very dependable...hope that helps Mark
