Vioxx and other drug risk

I just read the Physician's Desk Reference concerning Vioxx. This is the drug they just took off the market because some people died of heart trouble while taking it.

Well, in the PDR it clearly states that, in the studies performed, there was an increased risk of heart problems, including sudden deaths. The little sheet you get with the drug warns the same. You're not supposed to take it if you're at risk of heart troubles, and you are supposed to watch yourself for any warning signs.

Most drugs are the same way...the warnings are there but folks either don't read or else ignore the warnings. I found out my brother doing the same, and now he has an ulcer because of it. He says "why didn't *you* warn me before???"

So read those little package inserts closely, they're important. Don't trust your doc or pharmacist to catch mistakes for you.

I don't take pills. I've had a good life and if I die, I die. One and done, no if, and, or but.

What I'm not going to do is hasten my demise by putting un-natural doses of God know what into my system. For about 2 years the Dr. had me on water pills and Potassium. He was running blood test about every six months to make sure I was ok. Well, one test showed my kidney function had dropped by 20 percent so he told me to only take the lasic twice weekly. So, I cut it out completely and I don't see any change to the swelling and my kidney is back to one hundred percent.

I think the physical therapy I'm now taking has done more to reduce the swelling than anything. And, the Lovely therapist is a way yonder better looking than that pinched-nosed Doctor.....gfp

nothing is 100% good and has no side effects. all things in life is a risk. that said, i do believe that there are some cases of problems, but they are greatly overshadowed by the good that is done to many more. a lot of the problems brought about about this vioxx scare is the greedy lawyers. they are excellant about playing upon peoples fears wheather or not they are true. i would tend to trust the medical healers rather than the hucksters of the law.

I know what you mean...but that stuff was soooooo good!

Two years ago I was suffering from the worst tooth pain. My head and face were about to explode. Went to the dentist and said I had an infection. He couldn't do anything until he got it under control. He gave me Vioxx. That was heaven! The pain was gone almost instantly!

I should have known then...for I've been a hbp patient for many years. I guess it was too good to be true.

One container of pills that I'm taking has so many warnings stuck to it you can't hardly see the container.
