Where my country place is, an unknown stray dog gets shot. period. And everyone that lives there knows the rule and does the same thing. If you know who's dog it is you either get the dog and take it home or call them to come get it. That's just the way it is. Any dog that is out and causing problems gets shot, known or unknown.

No Bob, you're not innocent anymore. A few years ago, I was on my way home from work, at a 4 way intersection, a lady, and myself started out from opposing directions, I stopped and motioned her on. She moved then stopped, leaving me broadside in the intersection. I went around her. Soon after I got home a trooper showed up and questioned me about it. He kept asking my name and looking at my license. He then told me that I would receive 3 tickets in the mail. Hit and run, tailgating, and passing on the right. He also strongly advised me to take it to court. Several times he'd see me and remind me to get my lawyer and take it to court. The dust on my pickup showed that I never hit anybody, but I got all 3 tickets anyway.
Come court day, the lady freaked out when she found out I was waiting for my lawyer, as soon as court opened, the trooper asked for a conference. My attorney came back and told me that all charges would be dismissed. Seems the lady identified me as a large overweight black man, with an afro. I'm a large overweight white man with very short blond hair!
Still I had to prove my innocence. As for neighbors, and dogs, I'm lucky, my neighbors will bring any of my errant dogs home and tie them up, if I'm not here.
Sucks to have your place searched for no good reason don't it. Hope your day gets better.
Ron

You Bob, you hit the nail on the head. You basically have to prove you are innocent. That's exactly what you did by letting the troopers snoop around. I am sure you feel violated but hopefully now, the next phone call they get from your neighbor wont bother you in the least bit.

So far, we have been real lucky with our neighbors at our farm. We know them all pretty well and they are very nice. I spread some gravel with my tractor for one and will blade the road for the others on the other side of me. Everyone takes care of each other's place. The 7 acres right next to us sold a few months ago. I haven't met them yet but I imagine I will this spring. If they are jerks, they'll find a very cold reception on our road.

Sounds like you have a jerk to deal with. That's too bad. It just wastes your time and pi$$es you off. Hang in there.

I had a neighbor woman about 70 years old that got drunk on a regular basis. When she did, she would get out her pea shooter pistol and threaten anyone that would listen. It all changed when she popped off a couple of shots over our direction and threatened to kill me for no reason. Well being the kind hearted soul I am, it didn't bother me for I knew her ignorance. But this time my small kids were out in the yard playing. I guess something just snapped and I loaded the 870 with 3" double oo buck. I went to the property line out by the road, layed the shotgun on the hood of my truck and proceeded to tell her if she even looked like she was going to pull that pea shooter out again, that would be her last moment to breathe air on this earth! Coarse my language was a mite more clear than that. I had already called Barney and company and told them what had happened and what I intended to do. Well when they slid the batmobile up sideways and went to start giving orders, I told them again that I had called and who they needed to talk to about their problem. I don't play when it comes to my family and I believe they were persueded that I was serious. They went and talked to the old idiot and of coarse since they were drinking buddies, they did not arrest her. But one thing, she lived another 10 years or so and I never heard or saw the pea shooter again. The same policeman was the one that asked me to give a 18 year old "boy" a chance to get back on the good side of the law since he had no record. I had caught him breaking in a house on our property. He was a telephone company employee at the time. His parents called and threatened to burn me out if I went to court and the policeman knew this. I let the little _@%*$_)$@#*$ off with a wrist slap. Imediately after the trial this policeman walked up to me and told me that this boy had a juvenile record a yard long, smiled and walked off.

A cop would have to really do some sure nuff boot strap tightening for me to be on their side about anything. I like the SSS cure myself.

No matter where you go, murphy's law says there WILL be a jerk in the area! Living out in the boonies is no protection from Murphy.

How could they search your sheds unless you gave them permission? They haven't repealed the constitution yet have they?

you are right but when you way the pros and cons of stopping them it tilts heavy on letting them i feel it shouldn't have gone that far does my word carry les weight then the guy that said i had another dog. maybe he should be fined for falsly reporting a crime

reminds me the day a fella came to this farm and said he was an inspector and had to look around. farmer wasn't too crazy about that but the fella showed him his business card. sure enough, he was an inspector alright. said right there.

so the farmer sez "i'll go with you" but the guy claimed he was used to working alone. the farmer wasn't too crazy about that either but let him go. pretty soon the farmer heard the guy yelling from the barn & said what's wrong? the guy said "your bull has me cornered and i think he likes me!" farmer thought a second & asked "then why don't you show him yer dam card?" :)
