Do you know of a way to kill morning glories (short of digging) without harming the lawn using home style stuff. I'm trying to get away from chemicals.

How can I kill Morning Glory without hurting grass and animals (horses)something erbal or without chemicals?

Andy in Ga    Posted 06-10-2002 at 18:56:39       [Reply]  [Send Email]
Grazon applied at a quart per acre in about 30 gallons of water will do the trick ,and not harm the grass.

I have field morning glories in my beautiful
perrennial groundcover that returns yearly.
Want to get rid of the m. glories, and other
weeds taking over, but do not want to kill the
groundcover! Stumped!

You suggested that last week as a herbicide, as I remember. I tried it diluted on some sidewalk weeds with no result. I sprayed the lawn and weeds with no result. I tried it full strength, and the weeks in the sidewalk cracks are slowly dying. I'm not brave enough to try it on the lawn. Maybe a corner tonite, but I suspect it will kill the lawn. Experience?

i think you are suposed to put vinegar on and then eat them

Scott Hansen    Posted 06-10-2002 at 14:07:23       [Reply]  [Send Email]
What you are saying, then, is that I need a light oil.

Hogman    Posted 06-10-2002 at 14:31:05       [Reply]  [No Email]
I don't think They are right real eatable, mabe if They was marinated over night? Vinagar'n jalapeno juice with jest a smidgin of coal oil?

Burrhead    Posted 06-10-2002 at 15:29:43       [Reply]  [No Email]
if you use off road fuel instead of coal oil you get the san gria effect. It's quite romantic to yuppie wimmin especially when they smell it on your breath.

Hogman ---Thanks Cousin    Posted 06-10-2002 at 15:43:44       [Reply]  [No Email]

I just asked this question on the Talers board a few days ago cuz my lawn looks like it snowed. They said chemicals. Weed B Gone - twice at the very least.

Burrhead    Posted 06-10-2002 at 13:40:23       [Reply]  [No Email]
I can't think of the name of the active agent that kills morning glory, but anything with 2-4-D salts will kill bindweed and won't hurt the grasses except clover. It will kill the clover.

Scott Hansen    Posted 06-10-2002 at 13:41:21       [Reply]  [Send Email]
Got me there. Please explain 2-4-D salts.

Hogman    Posted 06-10-2002 at 14:21:01       [Reply]  [No Email]
Thats Dr Burr, He's purty salty at times, means well tho. Scott if Ya hav'nt figured it out yet this is a wacky bunch ,full of real valuable knowledge on tha one side and a stage full of comics on tha other. 2-4-D comes in several differant concoctions . I think what Brother Burr means ta imply ,chemicaly speakin 2-4-d is made up of salts other'n tha kind Ya use on tha table of course. But You'd have ta get tha right one.
I made a quick check thru My filing system which is mostly in tha form of piles on tha office floor and did'nt find what I wanted. Given time I could dredge up more info'un You'd care ta know. In tha intrim, get on tha horn'n call Your handy dandy Extension Office, thats what They're there for. Spect for that matter Cousin Burr already knows what'll kill Em but Ya gotta ask'im nice, real gentle like,He's got tender feelins.

I resemble that remark!

Burrhead    Posted 06-10-2002 at 14:55:22       [Reply]  [No Email]
You're right on all that about the salts.

I can't find a jug to get the active ingredients off of but I think it's amine to make the 2-4-D potent.

Hogman *** YEP,Thats tha main'un    Posted 06-10-2002 at 15:12:50       [Reply]  [No Email]
But They have other additives dependin on use Like Toradon 22,if it's R anybody can buy it but K and Ya have ta be licenced . Think I got that right,Oughta noe, use tha stuff. When Yur senile Ya gotta look at tha book kinda regular,if'n Ya can find tha book that is. If I can find it have a book that lists a morning glory killer, problem is it may kill everything else. Remedy might work with a dab of deisel stirred in??????

Burrhead    Posted 06-10-2002 at 15:16:47       [Reply]  [No Email]
good answer-good answer yeah Remedy would work and it's cheaper too.

I don't even know where my book is.

Ma Burr still has purdy good peepers and reads purdy good too so I send her to take the applicator test then I operate use it.

Hogman -- I'd do that too    Posted 06-10-2002 at 15:37:14       [Reply]  [No Email]

Hogman ** Ya'll grow ta love'im    Posted 06-10-2002 at 14:34:38       [Reply]  [No Email]
pretty quick!

Burrhead    Posted 06-10-2002 at 14:03:17       [Reply]  [No Email]
I screwed up and put salts in there instead of just 2-4-D. There is salt in it but 2-4-D is a broadleaf herbicide.

Hogman Hey Uncle Burr    Posted 06-10-2002 at 14:23:49       [Reply]  [No Email]
Ya slipped in there while I was scribblin a book.

Scott Hansen    Posted 06-10-2002 at 14:08:44       [Reply]  [Send Email]
As an ingredient in Weed B Gone? Or by itself?

Hogman **** I don't think so    Posted 06-10-2002 at 14:26:21       [Reply]  [No Email]
