Here's a hair-twister for you - You want to build a carport in Kansas okay? And you want to cover it with slanted, spaced boards to completely block the summer sun and let some in the rest of the year, trying to maintain a nice temperature underneath. Assuming the boards run east/west, what would be the ideal angle to attach the boards?

When I first read that I thought you said Venetian "capon".
I would subtract the latitude you're at from 90 and use that as the angle. That prolly ain't the right answer but that's what I would try.
Man, you're way down south. If I drive about 85 miles north, I'm on the 45th parallel.

"Maintaing a nice temperature" is not possible in Kansas, Oklahoma or western Arkansas.

Okay, let's just say "more moderate" then - heh heh - hey, evaporative coolers only offer 15 degrees at best, but they sell in the desert like hotcakes. :)

The same angle that Kansas is north of the equator.

what i meant was, they'd be arranged kinda like fixed venetian blinds. Kansas is 38-39 degrees N Latitude but i think the sun only gets to 23 1/2 degrees at summer solstice, so that extreme would shade all of it. Then at mid-winter, i'd want all the sunshine i could get.....

You got it Bob - PCC-AL    Posted 06-21-2002 at 18:41:13       [Reply]  [No Email]
