I put a new motor (351 windsor),carburator, radiator and transmition in my 1984 full size 4 wheel drive Bronco but because I"ll only be using it around the farm or on the hunting lease I did away with the egr valve, smog pump and a bucket full of vacuum hoses. I was real proud untill I cranked it up,I can't seem to get the timing right, it runs hot, idles rough and does't have power enough to even pull my flat bottom boat to the river! Anybody out there got any ideas about which vacuum lines I really need to put back on (or what else I need to do)?

Put the EGR back on and leave the vacume line off of it and plug the line, then it will not open.

Sounds like a lot could be wrong. Gotta seal that egr off real good or direct vacum leak. If its running hot sounds like your timing is way to advanced. Do you have vacum advance? One of those carbs won't run with out vacum. I forget which one it is. If it's that one you'll have to change carbs or put the vacum back to it. Sounds like the lack of power is all timing. Back fire out the carb?

gramps did ye seal it good where the egr come off?????

I got a 302 we put in F150 that was doing the exact same way. It nearly drove me bonkers till I took the egr off and put a new gasket over the manifold to seal it off good.
