We live in a touristy spot, too. There are four recreational lakes within 30 minutes of us, plus a scenic river with all kinds of canoing and rafting. (when I was a kid, we used to go down to the river with our bar of soap to wash up--now it's so dirty you need the bar of soap after you get out of the water) Our biggest weekend is during the Cherokee National Holiday over Labor Day weekend. This year is the 50th annual, so it's sure to be packed. We always work at the Holiday, and it usually is fun but exhausting. But definitely a mixed blessing at times!

Want to see some tourist come to the Black Hills. Got Mt. Rushmore, Wind Cave Nat. Park, Devil's Tower and such. I get real fisty every now and then and hook up a square baler behind the tractor and see how many I can back up. Can't pull over too far with a square baler. I just smile and wave when they findly get a chance to pass. Ones I don't like are the motorcycles. (Sturgis Bike Week). They all like to hang around the gas station hunting shade. They park in the diesel island and just set. Haven't seen one of them motorcycles with a diesel engine yet. Can't get the suckers to move so I can fuel up the truck.

All I can say is I really feel sorry for you guys. Why people come out to the country to see God's land and than trash it is beyond me. Dennis and I are very fortunate to live where nobody would want to come even if they found it because there ain't nothing here but us and our critters, and two neighbors, one across from us and one behind us! Dennis did good when he found this place on the net.

I live uphill from the Charlotte, VT - Essex, NY Ferry across Lake Champlain. Appx. 12 miles south of Burlington, and the closest crossing to the city.
When it takes 5 minutes to pull out of your own driveway, you know it is time to move...
